Promise Me

Third POV

"Promise me."

Levi gently grasped Eren's hands in his, intertwining their fingers while leaning his head against his chest. Levi's eyes were shut, a few tears trickling down his cheek. Eren smiled softly, and undid their fingers, wrapping his long tan arms around Levi's smaller frame. Nuzzling his face in his hair, Eren kissed the top of his head lovingly. Levi continued to speak then, voice only a low whisper, cracking slightly every so often.

"Promise me that you won't leave. That you won't leave me like Isabelle, and Farlan. That you won't give up on us. That when I wake up every morning you'll be there, lying next to me sleeping. That I'll be able to kiss you anywhere at any time. That we'll be able to hold hands everywhere. That one day we'll have a family. Promise me, Eren. Promise me."

Eren continued to smile softly. Gently running his hands up and down Levi's back in a comforting matter. Carefully Eren pulled his hands away, and brought them up to Levi's face, cupping his cheeks and wiping the tears away with his thumb. Levi gazed into Eren's beautiful ocean blue eyes, while Eren stared back into his sliver storm colored ones.

Eren then leaned down, kissing the tip of Levi's nose, and placing his forehead against the others. Finally Eren gently spoke.

"I promise."

5 years later

Levi walked along the open field of grass, hand resting lazily on his gear. He continued quietly to wander till he saw a lonely flower blowing gently in the mid summers wind. Picking the flower, he strolled all the way to the end of the peaceful field, still holding the flower in his hand. There he saw it. The large grey stone engraved with words. A name. In silence he walked over to it, knelling down once there and placed the flower in the dirt. Glancing up, he read the words he always reads again.

'Here lies Eren Jaeger.
A loving son, brother, and fiancé.
He fought well in his time of service, and his death will be remembered as the day humanity won.'

Tears trailed his face as he reread those words over and over again, always asking questions out loud.

"Why did you leave? You promised you would stay. Promised that you wouldn't leave like them. That you'd wake up with me every morning. Hold hands everywhere we went. Kiss each other lovingly...... That.... That we'd finally have a family together. I asked you to promise me, and you did. But you still left. Why? Why?"

He had fallen on to both of his knees by now, sobbing uncontrollably in his hands. He couldn't think right now, but words only replayed in his head.

'I promise.'
