Colorless days drifted past like blurry figures in school bus windows. Not completely grey days but the people passing with pastel colors never shined. no one vibrant stood out enough to acknowledge, until she came along. Closing my eyes breathing in the smell of failure desperation and rebellion, senior year. Shakey fingers clasped the metal edge of the locker pulling it's hinges closed and rested my back against the cold wall eyes flooded with the shade of red, it was the same shade as the night yellow faded, it radiated off of her skin and lightly drifted around her and as if she knew I was staring she turned in my direction a smile on her face but I knew that grin was hiding something deep but I couldn't tell yet if it was of dark or light nature.
" I remember you from the party" words that rolled off of her tongue like fire bringing back memories of the heartbreak and dancing.
" I didn't get your number before you slipped out the back" she pushed and the confidence she seemed to cast on those around her making them feel like they are stronger than they are in reality came bubbling up in my chest filling the words that dripped out of my lips.
" I didn't get yours either seemed busy dancing with another girl " I smirked poking at the fact that she danced like a little more than a friend.
" ohhh herrrr, she's just a friend well used to be she hasn't been around."
Curious about how this mysterious girl fell out of her life like red fading to pink and eventually white, but I didn't find it polite to ask in this moment so I spit out numbers
"1(509)430-5321"
I watched as her soft hands typed my number into her phone captured by the sound her nails made on the screen.
" I'll walk you to class" she said as if she wanted to linger in every moment she spent with me like I tasted of cotton candy.
