Marinette sat in class, actually paying attention to Mme. Bustier, for once. She did, however, have to resist the urge to look behind her. Ever since... NO! She would not allow herself to think about it. She had time later. For now, her grades mattered. If she pulled another C, her parents would question her.
Now that the days of obsessing over Adrien were gone, she could focus more. However, someone else did step into the picture...
But Marinette was responsible, and knew that she had to keep up her work. So that's was she did. Work. All day. All of the boring day. Well... maybe she stole a glance or two behind her shoulder. But that didn't count. Kind of.
When the school bell rang, she was more than happy to dart out of her seat. She packed her things with a purpose, slipping her papers into her bag swiftly. Just as she was about to make her escape, someone stopped her.
"Whoa, Marinette, you are sure in a hurry today! Don't tell me you have plans," Alya raised her eyebrows at her teasingly. Marinette panicked. Nobody knew about her... friendship. She wasn't ready to fess up to her insane fangirl friend. Alya would shriek if she found out what she was doing...
"Kind of... my parents need help at the bakery today, you know, lots of orders! I need to get going, since there's this cake that still needs icing, and it's been cooling all morning, and-" Marinette was cut off in her rambling.
"Yeah, okay, girl, I get it. Get going if you're busy. No need for lengthy explanations," Alya sent her off with a knowing smile. She knew Marinette was a rambler, especially when... SHE WAS HIDING SOMETHING?! No... She would tell her if something was up, right? Probably just really busy. Alya brushed off the thought and went on her way.
But Adrien didn't.
To be fair, Adrien didn't know Marinette all that well. However, he did consider her somewhat a friend. And if she was hiding something from Alya, it had to be big, They were best friends! So, with an almost-free afternoon, he decided to do some snooping.
Marinette wasn't paying the slightest attention to Adrien, for once. She packed the rest of her things and rushed out of the classroom without a backward glance. Adrien followed behind casually, as if it were another day. He noticed that once she was outside of school, she sped in the direction of the bridge.
What could she want with the bridge? She wasn't going to... No, Marinette wouldn't do that. She was a cheerful person! However, she was avoiding him more than usual, he noticed. And making up lies for Alya... He continued on warily.
To his immediate relief, she stopped and sat on a bench nearby. She seemed to be waiting for something... someone? He concealed himself within the nearby trees, hoping she wouldn't notice his striking blond hair among the leaves.
Marinette sat on the bench, waiting for... him. She smiled warmly when he came near. That made Adrien smile a little, too. So she was waiting for something nice.
What he saw, however, was not so nice.
AUTHOR NOTE BECAUSE I'M SORRY
I totally dropped the ball saying I would upload this weekend, and it's Monday... So sorry! I'm also sorry for rewriting a chapter, but I like this a LOT better than the last one. There should be an upload sometime soon (but we all realize how great I am with schedules) because I actually have motivation this time. Thank you to aneelasharmeen23 for giving me inspiration and cheering me on! You are the best! Anyway, that's enough rambling from me.
Toodleloo,
