If I Had A Choice It Wouldn't Be Him, Honestly

Marinette beamed as she saw him approach. She had worked hard all day like she said she would. She barely even peeked behind her shoulder. Now, it was time to indulge.

"Marinette, hi," he smiled, sitting beside her. He was in bliss as well. They hadn't been alone together in days; he also needed to indulge once in a while. Now here she was, in all her glory. His sweet Marinette.

"Hello, Nathaniel!" Marinette replied, her bright blue eyes finding Nathaniel's teal. Her eyes drifted around his face, brushing over every detail as if she were trying to memorize it. He did the same for her, and they were stuck for a moment, basking in each other.

In the shrubbery, Adrien was a little more than confused. He thought they looked as if they hadn't seen each other in months, and were trying to notice any minuscule change in the other. It also confused him that they had met up. They didn't act so much as friends at school, and now, all of a sudden, they seemed like lifelong buddies.

But buddies, Adrien realized, they were not.

Nathaniel moved closer to Marinette so that they were little less than touching. Their knees bumped occasionally, which made them both chuckle. Their conversation couldn't be deciphered... What were they saying?!

Something didn't feel right to Adrien. He sat there without realizing that this thing, this feeling... It was consuming him. A voice in his head drilling No, no no, Marinette. He isn't right. into his skull. This wasn't right, and for whatever reason, Adrien imagined himself there instead. He imagined that she looked at him that way.

And he realized, she had never looked at him that way. Why hadn't she? Here Marinette was, smiling and giggling and being genuinely engulfed in all of Nathaniel's presence, yet, she had never done that to him. What made Nathaniel so special? What made him the one who got those looks, that smile, that feeling?

That thought was infuriating. It was frustrating, confusing, weird, and infuriating. Adrien wanted those looks. Adrien wanted that smile. Adrien wanted all of those things and more, all to himself.

Adrien wanted her.

But the situation only escalated. Marinette and Nathaniel elbow-to-elbow on the bench, smiling and chattering cutely.

Then hand in hand.

And then, suddenly, they were connected.

Connected exactly as you would imagine: lip to lip, eyes closed, faces turned.
Kissing.

And that, to Adrien, was definitely not okay. He saw red, his fists clenched, and he muttered to himself out loud what was pounding in his head. No, stop that, right now. STOP THAT! Stop that or I'll-

"Or you'll what?"  Plagg asked, floating out of Adrien's shirt and hovering at his shoulder. He noticed Adrien getting mad. Very mad. And he noticed how they were hiding in the trees. "Oooh, who are we snooping on?"

Plagg peered through the leaves to spot Marinette and Nathaniel separating. They were both red-faced and awkward, stunned for the moment.

"Oh, them. Boring. Anyways, Adrien, let's go home. I want to have a little catnap," Plagg yawned, tapping on Adrien.

All Adrien could do was sigh heavily and stomp away. He didn't want to watch this anymore. He didn't want to feel this anymore. He wanted to get as far away as possible from the pair, and never have to see something so revolting again.  He wanted to indulge his violence in his room, preferably against the piano he so hated.

That's when he heard the screams.

Even better, he thought.
