ashton looked back as riley ran out the pent house with michael close behind her. he had broken the heart of the girl he loved, yet he didn't go after to her. his feet felt as if they were glued to the ground and no movement was possible. he wanted to run after her, he knows he should, he wants to go and make things right, but he couldn't. his body wouldn't allow it. it was as if his body didn't want him to be happy, yet his mind and heart told him to man up and run after her.

ashton turned around and looked a luke who was standing there, his fingers lightly tracing his lips and his eyes wide with shock, but soon after a small smile played upon his lips and ashton knew that luke had enjoyed it.

before he could stop himself, ashton's hands were balled into fist and he charged toward luke, punching him causing luke to fall to the floor, blood running from his nose and busted lip.

"what the fuck, irwin?" a high pitched voice screamed towards ashton and in came leigh, bending down to her brothers side.

"you hemmings," ashton snarled as he tried to run towards luke again only to be held back by calum, "are pieces of shit that ruin everything!" he tried escaping calum's grasp, but he only held on tighter. "everyone out!" ashton screamed, the music stopped and everyone was pacing the chaos. "parties over." calum let go of ashton who stayed there, anger plastered on his face.

"what is happening?" jay shouted, breaking through the crowd. ashton pulled down his shirt and glanced over at jay, then back down at luke who was being lifted up by leigh. "nothing," he said, "nothing at all."

the next day, ashton stood with his back pressed against his truck as he waited for michael, riley, jay, and mason to pull into their usual parking spot across the lot. his arms crossed over his chest and his sunglasses gave off a weird feeling on the bridge of his nose.

when he saw the familiar beat up, black van with many bumper stickers on the back pull in across the lot, he ran to it and waited for riley to get out.

"riley, please talk to me, let me explain." he begged towards the girl with the nose ring and her hair in a high pony tail. bags underneath her eyes were attempted to be covered up with foundation, but they still showed and her eyes weren't the dark blue they always were, they were dark - almost black. as if they had lost their color.

"there's nothing to explain." she replied, shoving past him with her head down, hitting his shoulder purposely and walking close to jay.

"yes there is," ashton sighed out and stepped in front of riley who attempted to step around him, but all he did was lightly pull her back.

"ashton, she doesn't want to talk." michael scolded at ashton who ignored him.

"meet me under the bleachers after school? i'll take you home." riley looked into ashton's pleading eyes then stiffly nodded and pulled her leather jacket tighter to her body.

"fine," she whispered, "but only to talk."
