I hate cleaning. Especially when it's for a guest... I'm (Y/n), an eleven year old girl. We're having a kid over, a "foreign exchange student", my mom says. I know the truth though, I heard her talking to a co-worker on the phone.

Let me slow down. My mom, she's a social worker who got stuck "adopting" a kid (as I like to call it). My dad is a counselor at a prison, which is why he is so calm. And there's me, a pre-pubescent teen who listens to crap, and has too many fandoms.

So apparently, this kid's parents neglect them. I, of course, felt sympathy. But, I couldn't really feel that bad, it happens all the time. I can't really help this kind of stuff. They would be staying with us for a few years, so I guess that helped.

The whirring of my vacuum and my thoughts both fighting to be heard blocked out my dad calling for me. "(Y/n)! Get the door, please!" I turned off my vacuum, putting it away before opening the door.

There was a boy, who looked around my age with a blue hoodie and three suitcases. "Sup..." I managed, being slightly distracted. He didn't say anything but just gave a slight nod. I stood there, almost freezing in my tank-top. Man, I never thought about how hot my room is...

My mom walked up behind me, greeting him. I jumped and walked out of the way. I couldn't help but look at them, mostly the boy. "Hi, Max! I'm (m/n aka mom's name). This is my daughter, (y/n)!" I sheepishly waved. "(Y/n), can you go to your room for a second?" My mom asked sweetly, before I walked to my room.

"What in the fuck?" I muttered to myself, combing my hand through my hair. Laying down on my bed, which I might add is a big bed, I closed my eyes. I looked around at all my posters and action figures. Thank god he won't be sleeping in here. I'm so glad he's going in the guest room- my thoughts were cut off by my mom opening my door, making me sit up. "You'll be sleeping in here with (Y/n)!"

I felt my face get hot, excuse me?! I felt like yelling, but my mom would have slapped me across the face. Instead I just looked awkwardly at my bed. I saw the boy set down his suitcases and walk back to my mom. "We would have you sleep in the guest room, but we can't ever keep that thing clean." Now you consider it a room unfit to sleep in? I thought, as I got up to go to the kitchen.

My mom kept showing the boy around our small house. "Hey, (Y/n)?" My dad called from the living room. I peeked in, walking to my dad. "We understand it's weird. Having to share a room with a boy. Just don't think about it that much, okay?" I nodded. My mom called me over, "(Y/n)! Can you help Max unpack?" She called from the hallway. "Yeah." I said in a monotone voice, looking at my dad, then walking to my room.

I saw the boy crouched on the floor opening his suitcases. I began taking my clothes and cramming them all into one side of my dresser. "I'm (Y/n). You?" I said, struggling to fit my shirts into one drawer. "Max..." he mumbled. I hadn't heard his voice, wow, he sounds... different... than I expected... I felt my face growing slightly warmer when he spoke. "Cool. Not many of those around here." I joked. There was around five kids at my school who had the same name. It was crazy.

He laughed, making my face get warmer. I stopped with my clothes and helped Max with his things. I began with the suitcase closest to him. For no reason, of course. We kept talking, about what it was like where Max was from and about hobbies. As I was going through his things, I found a bear. "What's this?" I asked while turning it around in my hand.

Max saw me holding it, and snatched it. "None of your buisness!" He said, raising his voice. I looked at him for a second before going back to help him with his things. "I won't make fun of you, I have a reputation at school for keeping secrets." I said, shrugging slightly. I couldn't see him, but I felt him looking at me, before hearing him sigh and begin speaking again.

"It's my bear, Mr. Honeynuts." My head shot up and looked at him, smiling. "That's cute!" I stopped with his suitcase and leaped on my bed, grabbing a stuffed bunny. "This is Bun-Bun! I've had them since..." I looked at the ceiling, how long have I had Bun-Bun? "I think first grade..." I saw Max looking at me with a smile. Once again, my face got warm. "B-but that's just an estimation!" I stuttered, averting my eyes and crossing my arms.

Before I know it, we began talking like it never happened. My mom walked in, holding a cup of coffee. "I'll be in my room if you kids need me." She said, closing the door. "Mom, it's three in the afternoon. Why are you drinking coffee?" She opened the door again, glaring at me, "don't question me, Missy!" Shutting the door again. I pointed to the door with my thumb and twirling my finger around the side of my head, making Max laugh. God, I love how he laughs...

When we finished, I got up and stretched. "I'm going to the kitchen to get an unhealthy snack, wanna come?" I asked while holding out my hand. "Sure." Max said, taking it and getting up. His hand felt warm in mine. I wanted to wrap my fingers around his, but I didn't. Instead, I quickly put it back to my side once he got up.

We got to the kitchen, talking on the way. I opened the cupboard door, grabbing a box of Pokémon gummies. Max was telling a story from a camp he went to this summer. I didn't look like it, but I was listening to every word. I handed Max a bag of gummies as we walked back to my room.

I checked my watch, 9:00... bedtime. I thought, getting a pair of sweatpants and walking to the bathroom. "Hey Max, it's time for bed. I'll change in the bathroom, 'kay?" I said as I walked across the hall. When I came back, I saw Max in a yellow shirt and some leggings. He was struggling with his hoodie, I couldn't help but let out a giggle. "Let me help." I said, walking over and pulling on his hoodie.

I was close to Max's face, seeing him with a shade of pink and red across his cheeks. Backing away, I grabbed my blanket. "Uh... a-anyways..." I stuttered, looking away. "How are we going to do this?" I asked as Max shrugged, "I guess be on opposite sides?" I nodded and got by the wall while Max got on the edge of the bed after turning the lights off.

I covered myself in the blanket, Max getting under it as well. I blushed, and faced away. Suddenly, I felt something clutching my stomach. I turned around to see Max, already asleep. I turned back to the wall, and scooted back so that I could hug Max as well. As I closed my eyes, I smiled.

Maybe this won't be as bad as I thought...

Uhhhhh. I guess that's it >>
