CHAPTER TWO - WINE GLASSES and SUNSETS:

(Unedited)

"Ok calm down. What happened?" I ask her almost whispering.

"My mom, she decided to stop by the house, and she thinks Buddy escaped when she opened the door." I nod. "I LITERALLY HATE HER!" Ellie yells, and only then do we realize we were still in the nail salon. As if on cue, we both blush, exiting the salon so that we don't risk further embarrassment. When we step onto the warm concrete outside, we both burst into laughter with a couple of snorts added here and there. "Th-at wa-s hu-mili-at-in-g!" Ellie says between laughs. I had however stopped laughing. "Yeah, I'm glad I don't live anywhere near Florida." I say with relief. Ellie had now passed her laughing phase as well. "Well aren't you lucky! That's the best Salon in the area, and my dad knows the owner!" Ellie says while wiping her fake tears dramatically. I roll my eyes. "Yeah, yeah." Ellie reaches into her pocket so that she could text her mom to inform her we were coming over. Just then her phone bursts into 'Who Let the Dogs Out' once again. "Hey mom. Yeah, we're on our way now." Ellie slides her phone into her dress pocket, beginning to walk as I follow. "Is that your mom's ringtone?" I ask. "Yup." She replies. "It's because she always somehow manages to get the dogs to escape." Just then I truly notice the connection. "What's my ringtone?" I ask. Just then loud music bursts into my ears 'My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard'.

"Seriously?" I say with my eyes wide open and surprise written all over my face. "Uh huh." Ellie says while nodding. "Sometimes I wonder if you are a ten year old stuck in a twenty four year old body." I say smirking. It was true though, but when I come to think of it, while I'm with her she rubs off a bit on me. "Hey, at least I'm younger, you are more like a fifty six year old trapped in a twenty three year old body." She says sticking out her tongue. I shake my head, "You know that was more of a compliment. It's better to look young when your old, and mature then to be young and look like you are old. At least in my perspective." I say with a huge grin, knowing that I won. "Yeah whatever." She agrees, which inflates my ego further because I had actually won.

We were just a few steps away from her house and I already saw the black Range Rover mini van parked in her driveway. Ellie reaches for her keys, and opens the door slowly. I stepped foot into the house to find Ellie's mother pacing back and forth. "I am so sorry Ellie, I didn't even see him." Her mother says genuinely. She scowls. "That's what you always say." Just then, something clicked, like in those cartoons when there was a light bulb above the characters head when they had an idea. "Hey Ellie," I poke her in the shoulder. She turns around with the scowl still visible on her face. "What Paige?" She says rudely, but I knew that it wasn't directed towards me, so I didn't take an offense to it. "Did you let Buddy back in the house after you let him go to the bathroom?" Her face formed an 'O' shape and I ran towards the sliding glass door peering out back, until I see a little tail sticking out from the dog house. I run over and call for him until he runs towards me, and I direct him back into the house. He runs over to his food and water bowl slurping the water up quickly with his tongue then moving to the food. Ellie leans down and pats him while saying "Sorry Buddy." I couldn't blame Ellie for suspecting her mom, but she could at least say sorry to be polite. As if reading my mind, Ellie mumbles a "sorry mom," and it seemed like she only wanted me to hear it, and not her mother. "It's okay darling," She says earning a small groan from her daughter, which only proved my suspicion. "Hey it is your last day in Florida, right Paige?" I nod. "Oh great, I set up a reservation at La Primo Fire Italian, She pauses "Would you care to join us?" I nod eagerly with my mouth watering, now in the mood for pasta. I hear a mumble from my right, "Of course you did," Her mom clearly heard her, but I imagine she was choosing to ignore her daughter. "Wonderful, I'll call your father so that he can confirm the reservation." She says, looking at her daughter. Ellie rolls her eyes in annoyance, but I could tell she was jumping up and down with excitement on the inside, probably imagining the assortment of pastas and variety of pizzas. She kept a stubborn look on her face, but her blue eyes danced, further stating my theory, making me giggle. Both Ellie and her mother turn to face me, but I simply shake my head and gesture that it was nothing.
