In a world where Vampires and Shapeshifters exists, who's to say that other creatures don't exist?
Mermaids tend not to come close to land especially not to beaches, but what happens when a young mermaid gets caught up in the tide and comes to close...
"IS THAT MORONIC HUMAN TRYING TO DIE? Why can't he just stay on land or at the beach like one of the normal humans?" You asked your eels, Flotsam and Jetsam. They stared blankly at you for a second before turning to each other and nodding.
"Perhaps he wants to die?" They asked the question at the same time.
"Perhaps he's a clumsy human. You should go protect him. He'll need someone to keep him safe if he's that clumsy" Flotsam said quietly. He was always the quiet one. The good one. He always led Ursula in the right direction. Flotsam and Jetsam had come to her when she was young as her guides and companions. Every merperson gets at least one. There's even some that have up to 6, most merpeople have 1-3 though.
"He's the man he should be keeping her safe. Even if he's an idiotic human." Jetsam said with an eye roll. "Or you could use him to bring you pretty things. All you gotta do is flash those-"
"Do not even finish that sentence Jetsam!"
"SEA SHELLS!!!" Jetsam shrieked while swimming away from his twin. Then there was Jetsam, he was definitely the bad influence of the two. He was loud and had a dirty sense of humor. He's protective of Ursula and wished she had imprinted on a merman instead of a "useless" human.
Ursula sighed watching them chase after each other and thought about what they said. What if he really did want to die? She knew nothing about her imprint. Only that he was perfect and beautiful and had the most beautiful eyes. He smelt like the forest and something else... She noticed that his scent had changed since she last saw him. Seeing that those two weren't going to stop anytime soon, she decided to go back to her cave. Swimming to the far back of the cave she pulled herself out and propped her head up on the rocks.

Night had fallen shortly after she arrived to her cave and she was resting peacefully when she heard a noise at the entrance of the cave. She quickly dived back into the water to avoid being seen.
"Hello? Anyone here? Any uh mermaids by chance?" A voice called out into the darkness. A glow filled the cave as the human walked in further holding a strange device that emitted light. Once he passed where she was hiding under water she surfaced just enough to get a scent on the human that entered her cave. Her favorite scent filled the air, a mix of the forest and the beach as well as something else she didn't know. Ursula quickly followed him down. He stopped and looked toward the water and called out again "Hey... If there are any mermaids here or ya know... Anyone in general can you please come out? I don't want to look any crazier than I already do!" Ursula decided to take pity on her imprint despite not knowing half of what he said. She surfaced slowly showing part of her face as her imprint moved the light over the water. When the light hit her, he screamed like a little girl. Ursula stared at him blankly confused as to why he screamed. "Who are you? Are you the one that saves me?" he asked quickly.

"Yes" that was all Ursula could say. It was difficult speaking outside of her normal tongue. She knew some English from when her mother taught her when she was younger, but aside from that she only spoke Atlantian. She thought for a second longer before realizing he asked who she was and said "Ursula" very quickly. The light was on her again and she made eye contact with her imprint for the first time in eight years. He stared at her wide eyed like she was a goddess come to earth.
"Ursula" he breathed her name out. "Do you speak English? What are you? Why do you keep saving me?" He rushed out all of his questions at once and watched her face go from one of awe to one of confusion. He decided to say his questions slower this time. He saw some recognition come over her face.
"Ursula is Mermaid, some English, who arrrrrrre you?" Ursula dragged out the word 'are' not remembering fully if that was the right word to use. All she cared about was finding out her imprints name.
"My names Embry Call. You speak some English? Is that what you were trying to say? And you still haven't told me why you keep saving me!" He said frustrated at the end. She smiled up at him revealing sparkly white teeth with razor sharp canines.
"Aim-Bree Call?" she said happy that she said his name. He chuckled and shook his head.
"No. It's Em- Bree" he sounded it out for her with a smile and watched as she mumbled it to herself a couple of times. "Are you going to ever tell me why you save me all the time?" he questioned her yet again.
"Em-bree Ursula imprint! Must keep Em-bree safe!" She said with the proudest smile on her face. It warmed his heart to see her so excited about something. He was about to ask her what she meant and if it was similar to his imprint on her when a howl broke out. He whipped his head over to the entrance of the cave knowing he had to leave.
"Ursula I have to leave okay? I'll be back tomorrow though! I promise!" She just nodded and slipped back into the water while he ran out of the cave and back up the cliff.
Chapter two complete! Ursula and Embry have finally officially met!
Something I want to explain quickly is that although I've been typing all of Ursula and her eels thoughts and speech in English it's actually all in Atlantian which is what merpeople in my story speak. However because of her father being human and her mother living on land for a while with him she does speak very basic English. Hence why she sounds very childish and speaks very broken sentences.
