CHAPTER 3

(A week after)

“Yes, I’m getting dressed now. Chill out, okay baby? See ya.”, I hang up before Isaac says another word.

I put on a little mascara and light make up for tonight’s gig. It’s been a week now since I saw the mysterious dude along Kennedy’s. It’s not that I wanted to see him, but it’s become a relief that he hasn’t come back anywhere near the bar. I don’t need some people to go interfere with our good career in Kennedy’s.

I gathered my keys and hop in my car. It took me 2 minutes to start this shit up. I think I should put it up for sale and buy a new or another second-hand one. One time it blew off in the middle of a roadtrip with Isaac. Dang, I don’t have any other friends besides Isaac and he’s my boyfriend. I’m such a loser. Well, he’s the only one who understands me and gets me. Though, I don’t know if in those 3 years, we genuinely know each other.

I arrived at Kennedy’s just in time. Isaac was already out panicking. I can’t help but smile because he’s so adorable just doing that. Awh, my Isaac. He’s being such a cutie. I hopped off and hurried to meet him in the front door.

“What took you so friggin long, Jess?!”, he snarled in an angry tone which almost got me scared. Well, it scared me, yeah…

“I got a headache and slept a little. Didn’t I just arrive in time?”, I responded in a low tone

“But we have to practice the whole song and soundcheck. Damn, please act professional, Jess. I thought you want this so bad.”, he said as he ran his hand through his long brown hair

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to get late. I didn’t mean to have a headache, Isaac…”, still softly speaking

“It’s okay, let’s get going now.”, he held my hand and gestured to the bar.

I’m so confused. Why the hell is he so mad at this? I’m not late. Well, maybe we just have to practice and do soundcheck, but still, he never gets this mad at me. Never in 3 years did he scare me like this… Maybe I had to understand that there will be times in our relationship we’ll have to have disagreements and misunderstandings. Stil…

Just as I was starting to set down my notebook to review my lyrics and Isaac starts to set his piano and guitar, I noticed Kennedy and Emma talking to a guy I can’t recognize cause he was turning his back from me. All I can see is Emma smiling so wide and Kennedy looking a little convinced. Could the guy be… Oh hell, he’s the dude from last week. What the hell is he doing here?! Damn my instincts. I know he’s doing business now.

I approach Emma and signaled her to come to me to the backroom. I didn’t need the guy to see me worried about his presence. I’m still wishing I’m wrong with what I think what he’s here for.

“Emma, who’s that? Why’s he here?”, I asked so obviously as I pushed the door closed.

“Oh, he’s Luke.”, she responded smiling. Cute name, I thought. “He’s a cute Australian starting a band and trying stuff here in America. They’ve been making music as long as you and Isaac did.”

“What is he doing here?”, I repeat as she didn’t answer all my questions

“He wants to get his band a part-time job here at Kennedy’s. How great, right? You and Isaac and 5 Seconds of Summer!”

Oh hell, I was so damn right and I hate myself so damn much for being right. I don’t know why I’m so worried but I really don’t want to work with them most especially that guy… Luke.

“Oh. Are they gonna take our place?”, I asked

“Of course not, honey. You and Isaac are the pioneers here. We’ll just try them and if we get good feedback and great deal of customers, then that’s awesome.”

I didn’t respond but just smiled a forced one.

“Here, let me introduce you to Luke.”, Emma said opening the door of the back room.

I stepped out and followed her. I looked up and saw him staring right through my eyes. Luke definitely had the loveliest blue eyes. Isaac has green ones and they’re beautiful too but hell, I’m a sucker for blue ones. Uhm, wrong thoughts again.

“Hey Luke, meet my lovely lovely friend, Jessy.”, Emma introduced me

He was staring. Definitely staring. He bit his lip and it was the most adorable thing I saw he did. What? No.

“Erm, yeah. I saw her outside the bar last week, I think?”, he said with such a weird yet beautiful accent. He remembered me. “Well, hi Jessy.”, he smiled.

“It’s Jess. Only Emma calls me Jessy.”, I responded monotonously.

“Oh, alright Jess.”, Luke said and I’ve never heard my name said as strikingly as that.

“Well now that you know each other. You would be all set for a month of working together.”, Kennedy finally spoke

All I could think of is… DAMN.

            The war just began.
