Blake
A piercing pound in my skull. A filling emptiness in my chest. A tickling sting my fluttering eyes.
It took so very long for all my senses to kick in, but even then, it was a crappy end result. I woke up in my bed, covers right over my torso, my arms clasping over them. I never wake up, tucked like this. I don't even remember having put on my sleepwear.
What exactly did I remember?
For a long while, I remained there, lying down, not moving, staring up at the ceiling. I knew if I got up, the headache would increase, so I stayed down. Besides, what was there to do if I got up?
The sun was barely getting through the curtains. They were already being partly blocked by the infamous clouds out here, anyway. It was getting a bit cold, and the silence that entered my ears was becoming difficult to get through.
I hadn't even noticed someone entering the room. I only gave them my half-hearted acknowledgment when, once a foot away from my bed, she spoke, "Good morning, Blake." It was one of the nurses, I realized once I looked up at her, Joanne.
"Good..." I lifted my head, and, as expected, my brain burned. I winced with a curse, slamming my head back on the pillow beneath me. My joints were beginning to ache, as well.
"We have some breakfast ready for you, here, and... Are you alright?"
Clearly not.
"You need to eat, that'll make you feel better. We'll check on your vitals after that, I'm sure we'll need to see them." She said, my head still spinning. I felt like the world was being flipped upside down, it made me jump a bit. "You slept in, so..."
"I... I did...?" I turned over to the clock. I couldn't even see it, my glasses were on my nightstand, everything was a messy blur.
"Yes. You came back way after lights were out, and down under, as well. Come on, sit up." She helped pull me up to do so, but I was still spinning and had the need to vomit as she lifted up my pillows. She set me back down, getting the little bed table over me and the plates and cups of my breakfast. I stared blankly, mouth dry as she set everything up.
"What... Where..." I could barely even whisper. I felt bile rise up in my throat, but I luckily managed to swallow it back down.
Her hand patted at my shoulder, and then swept the hair away from my eyes. "You're back with us, don't worry. Eat up, you need it." I heard her folding some clothes, and I remained staring at the food that waved and blurred up. "We'll be able to give you your medication and check up on your vitals afterward, so don't worry, we'll see what's the matter."
Sweat was building up on my skin, everything was heating up. The cold was gone, everything was burning, and not in the way they were last night. Everything was hot, everything was heavy, I felt absolutely awful.
With a heavy sigh, I tilted my head into my shoulder. Rising up, rising up. Not me, but the partly digested food. My breathing got even heavier, eyelids flickering. Looking at the food only gave me more pain and nausea. Panting, I squeezed my eyes shut tight.
"Hm? Blake?" Joanne's voice was wavering, too. "Are you alright?"
Whatever exited my nostril should be enough to answer her question. I kept my eyes shut when the thick residue slid down from my left nostril. My nose didn't feel all that stuffy, not enough to bring out mucus.
Oh, no. It wasn't mucus, I realized when it dripped down to my lips and on the tip of my tongue. It was most definitely blood. The taste and smell was more familiar.
