(A/N: First, an apology.
I did not update this story for months.
I said I would, and yet, I didn't...I am so sorry. See, this one time in July, I actually DID write the entirety of this chapter...but then Wattpad deleted the story part *grumble grumble* and then, I worked hard to salvage some of it...and because of that, my enthusiasm to write this kinda died a bit. Then it started coming back. I made a backup copy. Rewrote the chapter. I cut the original ending partly for the cliffhanger and partly so that I could deliver this as quick as possible.
So, again, I'm sorry. I just thought you'd all want a bit of my lame excuse as to why o hadn't updated. This story is fun to write. It's tough, too...but I'm really not giving it the time it deserves. I hate my writing too much, so I'm cutting myself some slack. The quality may not be so great...but I promise, I won't take so long to update anymore.
I will try my best. Forgive me, I'm sorry.
Anyways I hope you enjoy! Haha!)
THE CHAPTER STARTS HERE (stupid lengthy apology...)
"Miku!" Kaito pulled me towards a closet and I caught a glimpse of Rin and Len running in. Rin was freaking out and Len didn't look too calm, either. I felt frozen, almost. I wanted to run, but where would I go? My parents were probably dead, and who knew what was wrong with my neighbours?
"This is messed up," I heard Kaito mumble before he yelped and suddenly fell back. I twisted myself around, his hands slipping off of me. I screamed and grabbed his hands, pulling him towards myself as my neighbour's daughter yanked the back of his shirt.
"Fuck!" I screamed, "Kaito!"
He pushed me back and I stumbled, falling to the floor, watching as he spun around and grabbed the little girl's head as she dragged him towards the kitchen. He swiftly snatched the tall coat hanger that was close by and swung it mercilessly against the girl's head.
He let out a loud cry and for a second, I thought the girl had bitten him, too, but she hadn't. I hurried to my feet and looked around, grabbing my father's shotgun, which lay by the kitchen entrance. Without another thought, I blasted a shot into the girl's head and blood flew heavenward as her hands slipped off of my friend.
Kaito fell to the floor, his head hitting the wall with a loud thud in the process. I hugged the heavy weapon close to my chest and scurried over to Kaito, grabbing his arm with one hand and pulling him away, towards the closet.
"M-Miku..." he groaned and that was when I saw that his head was bleeding, "Shoot her again..."
I looked at the girl and saw that her fingers were twitching. I nodded slowly and strengthened myself before I let another bullet fly, to her head again. It was loud, like thunder, a booming, crackling sound that echoed in my ears and would haunt the nightmares I'd have during whatever little sleep I'd get. I pulled Kaito to his feet and we scrambled into the closet, shutting the door.
"We can't stay here forever," Rin whispered, "Miku, your parents... "
I just shook my head as her voice trailed off. Kaito was leaning against the door, slowly sliding to his knees. Len crawled over to him and pushed his bangs away from his bloody forehead.
"I-Is he gonna be okay?" Len looked at me, fear burning in his azure eyes. I glanced down at the shotgun in my lap, the blond boy's words barely registering in my mind.
"We're out," I whispered.
"Huh?" Kaito groaned.
"Bullets," I said, "The gun only had two bullets..."
