(Apologies, this chapter is sooo unpolished, and it ends earlier than I had originally intended, but I just had to get it out there because you've all been waiting far too long. Forgive me for the lacklustre work; life's harsh on me these days, to say the least.)

(Also, um...thinking of changing the title to something snappier. Suggestions? How about, "The Dead Don't Sing?")

---

The next few moments of my life: lurid, sluggish, horrifying. A mess of emotions. A cacophony of sounds and screams. Various voices calling my name. My parents' faces, contorted, dead, flashing before my eyes as hot prickles dance over my skin.

The first thing I did? My eyes widened, I guess. My collar connected with my throat as it was tugged back and I choked on more civilized sounds, instead releasing a shrill scream. Heavy stench, blood, dirt, medicine...clogged my nostrils. My head hit the wall. Some peeling wallpaper flaked off. More stench. A bloody mouth inches from mine. I think there were tears in my eyes at that point.

"Miku!"

"M-Miku?"

"No! Miku!"

My socks slipped against the stairs. It was my neighbour. His breath stank of sewer water, carrion. I didn't have much time to focus on that. He lunged forward, mouth first. I fell to my butt, crying out softly.

"Miku, here!"

Two hands grabbed my wrists and dragged me up. My stomach and knees hit the steps in the process. It wasn't really my concern at that point, though. I fell a few steps higher, those hands still holding me, as a familiar female voice cried out and a male grunted. Something hit the wall. I opened my eyes. They had closed shut at some point, maybe when this person pulled me. I looked up and saw blond. Len. His expression was grief-stricken and darted from me to the bodies behind me. I spun around just fast enough to see the sight. Rin was literally sobbing. Tears streamed freely from her eyes as she screamed and repeatedly smashed her bat against David's ribs. Kaito had my useless shotgun. He was making use of it, though, swinging it at the rotting man's skull again and again, till I could swear that I heard something snap.

"Miku, I..." Len looked at me and his grip tightened on his own baseball bat. I was about to nod when he got up. With a grunt, he swung the wooden object at David's legs. Something definitely snapped that time, and the man tumbled down the steps. Kaito ran down the steps and smashed his face in again and again. I cringed as red sprayed over the blond boy's pale features.

"Stop, Kaito, stop!" Rin yelled at some point.

My thoughts had fazed over as I stared at Len and Kaito, repeatedly smashing the bloody body. Their faces were red, partly bloody and partly flushed.

"It's dead, goddammit! Please!" She grabbed Len's arm and he shoved her off without thinking.

"No, it's not!" He yelled. "I don't care what I have to do, t-this thing needs to stop existing!"
