I flew as fast as I could to the dragons speed. I saw the citizens of Laketown in panic. They were frantically paddling their boats through the canal. I looked down to see the others with Tauriel running out of Bard's home. I flew down and folded my wings. Kili and Fili smiled as I landed, Fili was holding Kili up.

"Paephan."

Tauriel came up behind them.

"We have no time. We must leave!"

I looked at her in agreement as I helped them to the boat. A small boy walked up to us.

"We're not leaving. Not without our father."

Tauriel turned to the boy with a stern look.

"If you stay here, your sisters will die. Is that what your father would want.

The boy looked upset but he shook his head. I helped the others into the boat. As they were prepared to set down the canal. Smaug swooped low over us as the townspeople screamed. Smaug soared high above the town and dove toward the town. His chest was built up with fire. I expanded my wings and was able to block the flames but the townspeople were hurt. As Smaug flew overhead, still spewing flames. I flew high into the air to meet his gaze.

"Smaug! You coward! Face me and see if you live!"

Smaug snarled and roared as he flew at me. I swooped over him and tried to stall him for the others to get away. As Smaug started to spew fire I flew up toward his face and sliced at his face with my wings. He roared in pain as he flew away.

That should be enough time.

I flew down to the others above their boat.

"You need to hurry. That only stalled him."

The others nodded their heads. The boy and his sisters looked up and shouted.

"Da!"

I followed their gaze and saw Bard on a high tower shooting his bow toward Smaug. Kili smiled.

"He hit it! He hit the dragon!"

"No..."

Kili looked up to Tauriel as she spoke.

"His arrows cannot pierce its hide; I fear nothing will."

I turned to Tauriel and back to Bard.

"I have an idea."

The others turned to me with a questioning look.

"Tauriel, get them to safety."

I flew up to Bard in the tower and saw Smaug turning back to attack.

"Bard! I remember your ancestor, Girion used a weapon against the beast. Where are the black arrow!"

"Down there in that boat."

I followed to where he pointed and saw Smaug coming closer.

"Get there as fast as you can! I'll draw him away!"

Bard looked down and saw his son going toward the boat.

"Bain!"

Oh no.

I looked to see Smaug closer, I flew up in the air and quickly toward Bain.

"Hurry! Get the arrows to your father!"

I flew at Smaug once more as he spewed out flames. He started to use his claws and tail to try and hit me, but he was too slow. I turned to see that Bain had been able to reach his father in the tower. Smaug started to hover in the air as he spoke out to me.
