Chapter 19

~Judy~
There, on the pavement sidewalk just a few miles from the Zootopia laboratory, laid the corpse of the cheetah who had stolen Joshua's giant key. Chunks of flesh were missing from the body, and its stomach was torn open, revealing the intestines. But what sickened me the most was the fact that the heart was missing from inside the ribcage, which could mean one of two things: either Josh had taken it, or he had... eaten it.

The thought of an organ being devoured by another living creature made me feel squeamish. My nausea soon passed, as I realized our new task: we needed to find Joshua before it was too late.

We were telling Chief Bogo what had happened. I tried to convince Judy that we should keep the situation to ourselves, but she insisted that we needed to cover more area if we were going to find this kid. And as much as I wanted to object, I knew she was right.

"So, you're telling me," Buffalo Butt began, "that you found the human, and didn't return it to the lab?!"

I'd had enough. "JUST BECAUSE HE'S DIFFERENT FROM US DOESN'T MEAN WE SHOULD TREAT HIM LIKE AN OUTCAST!!"

Both Judy and Bogo stared at me in shock. Tears pricked at my eyes, threatening to fall.

Chief Bogo sighed in annoyance. "You're lucky you two are my best officers, otherwise you'd both be fired." He picked up his radio. "Change of plans. Find the human before it causes trouble in the city."

Judy and I walked out of the Chief's office.

"What are we going to do, Nick?!" Judy asked in a panicked tone. "We can't let them take Josh!"

"Calm down, Carrots, we'll think of something," I say with confidence. But deep inside, I'm just as worried as she was, if not even more. I don't want this kid to suffer more than he already has... but what should I- what can I do?
