I learned this from the app Talk To Me In Korean. the app is run by koreans who want to help americans learn korean.

so i know all ya'll know hello in korean (안녕하세요)

but saying goodbye isn't as simple. unlike in english where you just say goodbye, see you later, or bye. Korean there is certain situations where you have to say something different.

if you are leaving and the other person or people are staying then you say 안녕히 계세요 (an-nyeong-hi gye-se-yo)

if you are staying and the other person or people are leaving then you say 안녕히 가세요 (an-nyeong-hi ga-se-yo)

**Note from Talk To Me In Korean:

When Korean people say 안녕하세요 (an-nyeong-ha-se-yo), 안녕히 계세요 (an-nyeong-hi gye-se-yo), and 안녕히 가세요 (an-nyeong-hi ga-se-yo), they dont always pronounce EVERY single letter clearly. so often times, what you would hear is just the ending part, "세요" [se-yo]

Ok so i need yall to answer 2 questions.

which goodbye do you use when you walk away?

Which goodbye does your friend use when walking away???
