I'm walking down this road. My boots hit gravel, as my book bag ruffles with every step. The sun still barely over the horizon, my eyes are heavy but there's no way I'm going back. My feet hurt all the way up to my head, the pounding has grown since my mental breakdown.
I see my destination in the distance and all I can think is I'm safe. I want to jog but I wouldn't be able to make it so I continue to walk until a small sprint distance. I'm sprinting but I really only see that, not feel it. Then I stopped cause the steps made me hesitate.I hoist myself up, the creaking of the stairs makes me jump. But I'm on the porch and I ring the circular bell, it's slightly rough. I hear something and there's a slightest pause.
Until the the door handle starts to open. The door swings open, you're standing there in your pajamas. You're rubbing your eyes, shocked to see me there cause I'm guessing I look tired, more like exhausted and my eyes are probably shot red. Then you spoke.
"Hey, it's a little early to come over don't ya think?"
"Yeah, maybe. Listen, Gavin I couldn't stay at my place. I'd knew you'd be awake cause, when are you not. I just- I couldn't be there right now...so I came here. I just-I'm sorry I'm bothering you, I didn't know what else to do-I"
You cut me off, and felt kind of safe, in that moment. Your arms around me as you held me for awhile, and you let go and looked at me speaking words of relief.
"Why, don't you come inside. Have some hot cocoa with marshmallows. Cause you're always welcome at my place, you know that don't you? There is nothing that could change that, if you didn't pack clothes you can borrow mine."
"Man, don't you know how to make a girl happy, don't you...?"
My voice is raspy but I manage. I get inside and there's a fort in the living room, lights dangling with chairs covered by sheets; with its full of pillows, of course.
"Yeah, I guess so. But don't think I'm not going to ask you what's wrong."
His voice sounds serious but he's still quite drowsy.
"Can it wait till tomorrow, Gav...? I really don't feel up to it."
A little while later we're drink hot chocolate, in his pillow fort that we named The Kingdom Of Dreams. We babble on about things we'd do as trouble some middle schoolers, we were always laughing on about something.
I eventually I could feel my eyes start to close, then I gave into their plead for sleep. As I drifted the lights twinkled turning into little porcupines. Then I herd you whisper under your breath.
"What am I gonna do you with you, Lenora?"
