Gavin and I had been in the car for about 20 minutes when we stopped at my place. It took me about 3 hours to walk to Gavin's house considering I was in foot and angry, and my backpack slowed me a bit.

I looked at him, and back at the house that I had grown up in. The wooden porch almost looked like it would cave in, the screens on the windows and the door tattered and old. The garage half open full of trash and crap no one used. The car my mom drove was in front, so I suspected she may be home but there was no real way to tell unless I went inside.

"I'll grab some more clothes and other things I want and I'll come straight back, okay?" I said hesitantly.

He responded with "Yeah okay I'll pop the truck when you come back out."

I got up and out of the car, and went up to the door. But of course the door was unlocked, safe as always. I got inside, messier than usual I thought to myself. It smelled awful, you could make out cigarette smoke, drugs and alcohol. But nothing out of the ordinary for this household.

I turned and walked upstairs, I took a left and went down the hallway. My door was second on the right to me and I opened the rickety door. I grabbed a suitcase that was stuffed in my closet and started packing my clothes from my drawers.

Then I went over to the whole my sister made when she came home drunk from a college party. I dug inside until my hand came upon a lunch box, a red generic one. I opened it to see my money was still inside, my family is to stupid to look for to long. I counted about $278.57 in total, all my hard working at a summer camp.

I grabbed my stuff and tried to quickly get out of that pathetic place of a home. I scurried out the door hearing it click behind me. Gavin popped the truck and I put my stuff inside. As I swung open the car door the porch door opened. My father stood in the door frame, he was definitely drunk, telling by his posture.

He screamed " LENORA, I ALWAYS KNEW YOU WERE A MISTAKE JUST LIKE YOU USELESS BROTHER. WE AREN'T PAYING THAT ****! GO AHEAD RUN AWAY WITH THAT SCUMMY RICH BOY, LIKE WE'D CARE."

He threw up. I got in the car, and Gavin grabbed my hand. He asked me if I was okay. I said yeah. We started driving Gavin and I were listening to the radio, and we were singing to some of our favorite songs. It was the most fun I've had in awhile, then we came to a stop light.

"Hey wanna stop and get some snacks?" Gavin questioned me with excitement.

"Heck yeah I do!" I responded with.

I remembered the times when Gavin and I would walk to a gas station and get snacks and hang out at the park for hours. We finally found a random gas station and we walked in hoping to come across something appealing.

I went straight to the candy isle and picked up some of my favorites. Then I grabbed some Arizona's and a bag of chips for good measures.  Gavin was already in line, he had a big grin and turned to show me his haul. He had six bags of chips, about three pops and about enough candy to put a child on a sugar rush for days.

I giggled getting into line with him. We got our stuff our total was $37.86 Gavin decided it was right for him to pay. We stashed our snacks in the back leaving two drinks in the front. It was about 6:00 because we had taken our time, though we'd be late to the festival it wouldn't matter cause it runs for a whole week and tonight's opening night for them.

We finally got to the festival area. There were happy kids, and teens in groups. Everything was lit up with lights and the smell of the carnival is what every child once dreamed of.

"Are you ready for the most fun in a life time Nora!" Gavin asked in a dramatic voice.

"Oh you betcha, Gav! Let's make tonight fun to make up for the crappy weekend, am I right?"
I responded.

I finally was happy. Maybe there's something here I can live for. I glared at Gavin, I thought maybe you're the one. You always told me that all of my middle school boyfriends weren't good enough for me. Maybe this relationship could work. No you can't you should ruin what he's doing for you for some stupid feeling you're having, I should just push them away.

"What? Do I have something on my face?" Gavin asked.

I realized I had been staring at him for a good minute or two as we waited to buy tickets.

"Sorry, no you don't. I was just thinking, I didn't mean to loose myself in my head." I said trying to hide my face from embarrassment.

"You're blushing! Did you see a cute guy? I don't think anyone will notice you considering I look like your boyfriend, I hope you don't mind that." Gavin said.

I wish you were my boyfriend I thought to myself.

"It's okay I got the cutest guy right next to me!"
I said trying to be funny and or flirty. He laughed.

"Thanks, you're such a dork Nora!"

We finally bought our tickets and entered the festival gates. I gazed upon all the people, and realized maybe this will be fun. Maybe things will go right for once. We walked into the crowd, and we questioned what to do first.
