Riley walked out of his room crying and saw her friends.

"Riles? Is he okay?" Maya asked standing up to meet her.

"Did he die?! I can't handle my best friend dying!" Zay yelled.

Farkle put his hand on Zay's arm to calm him. "He isn't dead, he can't be, the doctors would have told us by now if there was even a chance. We're just waiting for him to wake up." He stated.

"You're right. Thanks Farkle."

Farkle nodded at Zay then turned to look at Riley. "Is he awake?"

She nodded. "Yes, but he doesn't remember me, or us. He's mad at me for letting him ride that stupid bull! Why did I let him ride it?!" She cried in Maya's arms. Farkle stood up and walked over to them. He was about to put a comforting hand on Riley's back when Maya pulled away and moved Riley into his arms. "Maya? You-"

"No one makes my best friend cry." She stated angrily.

"Maya, he doesn't remember us."

Maya had already walked away to go into his room.

She barged in without knocking and his eyebrows rose in shock.

"I know you lost your memory, but the first thing you need to know about me is that no one makes my best friend cry."

He furrowed his eyebrows then he chuckled. "Ah, so the blonde beauty is more aggressive than the pretty brunette."

Maya stopped dead. "What?"

He smirked. "What?"

Maya sighed. "It's just, um, you called me that before.. Well you told Zay and he outted you."

Lucas rolled his eyes. "Figures. He has a big mouth that gets him into trouble. So, you know Zay?"

Maya nodded. "Yeah. You, me, Farkle, Riley, and Zay. We're a pretty close group of friends."

He smiled and nodded. "I'm friends with Zay again? We had a falling out after I got expelled for fighting because of his big mouth." He shook his head and made a face. "Wait, Farkle? Is that a name or a nickname?"

"That's his name." Maya chuckled. "His real name."

"Why? Do his parents hate him?"

She shook her head. "No, I don't think so anyway. Um, why did you tell me about getting expelled, when we became friends in New York you didn't want to tell anyone. You were making a fresh start then, well Zay transferred to our school and he kinda outted your secret."

Lucas nodded. "I bet, Zay does that, that's why it's hard to be his friend sometimes, because of his big mouth. But I don't get why it would be a secret. Falling off a sheep was a secret, but that Riley girl knew that so I'm guessing you do too?" He asked.

Maya nodded and chuckled. "Yeah, Zay asked if we wanted to hear a funny Lucas story and we said yes." She explained to him.

Lucas nodded. "Zay outted my deepest secret to two girls." He scoffed. "What an idiot."

Maya looked down. "We signed you up to ride Tombstone." He stared at her. "We thought it was a sheep until you explained only kids rode sheeps and you would be riding a bull, but we thought bulls were just man cows." She sighed. "It's our fault you're hurt. I'm so sorry, Lucas." He frowned.

"What did you do?"

Maya looked up. "What?"

He licked his lips then sighed. "What did you do when you found out bulls aren't just man cows? Did you let me ride?"

Maya shook her head. "No. I kinda freaked out. I didn't want you going anywhere near that bull. I yelled at you to take off your stupid bull riding outfit and I wanted us to go home. But you wanted to ride so I said I would never speak to you again if you did." She said, she tried to stop the tears from falling but she couldn't. "I'm so sorry, Lucas."

The next thing she knew he was holding her head up to look at him, standing in front of her.

"Thank you. I can't remember your name or who you are to me, but thank you. It sounds like you were trying to protect me and that's what good friends do." He searched her eyes trying to remember her, but he couldn't.

"I'm Maya Penelope Hart."

He smiled. "I'm sorry that doesn't ring any bells, but it's a cute name." He slowly let go of her face. "Why didn't I listen to you?"

Maya frowned. "You had to ride."

He frowned too, but his was in confusion. "Because of Riley?"

Maya shook her head. "No, it wasn't Riley's fault, she just- she wanted you to be a hero. But you rode because your Pappy Joe said You either ride your fears-"

"Or you let them ride you."

Maya nodded. "Yeah. You had to ride to conquer your fears and try to make your Pappy Joe proud. I just, I wanted to believe you could do it like Riley did, but I couldn't. I didn't believe you could do it. I just got really scared that you would get hurt."

"I did get hurt, I guess. I should have listened to you and not rode that bull. I'm sorry."

Maya nodded, then she let tears escape her eyes again. He took his hands and wiped them away. Then he went back to holding her face, and staring into her watery eyes, trying to remember her.

"I can't remember you, but I feel like I should kiss you. Is that something we do? Are we dating or have we ever kissed before?"

Maya sniffed and stepped back from him. "You're Riley's guy."

Lucas looked shocked then he frowned and stepped back too.

The pain in his head got worse. It felt like something, maybe a memory, was banging against a door trying to break out, but it was just giving him a headache.

He felt a wave of dizziness and stumbled backwards. Maya saw and rushed to steady him then she helped him back to the bed.

He sat and waited for his vision to clear, when it did he saw the fear in her bright blue eyes, he felt the care in her touch, and he leaned in to kiss her forgetting what she said a few seconds ago.
