Pirelli had finished showing me around and we sat down at a little grill where we could eat lunch. I was trying to keep the anger from ruining my time here before I went back, so I pushed the thought of Pirelli compelling me to the back of my mind for the rest of the time. Despite what I didn’t know about him, I actually had fun. I was beginning to think that I should stay here for a while longer. Except the fact that I didn’t have a place to stay.
After we ate lunch, we got up and Pirelli was walking along the side of me. I met his gaze as he knew it was time for me to try to get out of here.
“Pirelli, I want to know where the master is. I need to go back.” he looked at me, dumbfounded, because we had so much fun earlier in the day.
“Excuse me, but I thought we were having a rather swell time here today, wouldn’t you agree?” he asked. I hesitated then began to defend my case.
“Listen, Pirelli, I had a great time. I promise I’ll be back to visit you. Please, just show me. I need to try to get out of here. Jeyden is probably worried sick about me. I need to go home. Don’t you understand?” I asked him. He shook his head.
“Umm, this place is for the dead, not for people that just want to visit friends that have died, or family members! You’ll be gone until you die. This is just like the last time you showed up here.” he shook his head on the last sentence and then stopped when he realized he has done something terribly wrong.
“The last time I was here?” I asked him. He sighed, knowing he would have to tell me now.
“Yes, When you were twelve years old, you died in a bad accident with your sisters and father. You were a mortal, your father hadn’t given you your power yet to make you immortal. So here, in Bealeton, is where he did it. When they were ready to leave, you had followed them over there to the tree of the dead. They were standing in an order, like always in pictures of them, your father in the back and the three girls in the front in birth order. They began waving goodbye as you ran over, happy smiling faces began to disappear.”
“Then you sat down and began crying, wanting to go with them. So I came over and helped you out. Showed you how to get to the master, and the secrets to get home— ”
“Secrets?” I asked, interrupting him.
“Yes secrets, tips on how to persuade him to let you go. Anyway, you were in a coma back home while this ordeal was being straightened out. You persuaded him that you would never try to return with your powers, and you would except the fate if you did.” he paused to look at me. “Death in the darkness, for all eternity.”
“But isn’t he going to think I tried to do this?” I asked.
“Of course he will, but you need to tell him how you got here. Make him understand this was an accident, not magic. You actually are in a coma, you were not trying to come back.”
“I understand. Take me to him.” I told him, my stare anxious. He slowly nodded, turned around, and began to walk. I had to follow.
“Come now, darling, I don’t want to lose you!” as he continued walking along the street.
We had been walking for quite some time. Being led down a series of alleys and vigorous streets, was terrifying. Every step closer I got to seeing him, every step closer I made to the master, every alley I took that led me to him. I was scared that I may be doomed to the darkness for the rest of eternity. Scared that my life would be in danger, but I was unable to stop now, unable to turn back. Partly because I wanted to get home and put my arms around Jeyden, and partly because I would be unable to navigate my way out of this maze without the help of Pirelli.
