"No, that's not her." Said Junjie, he stared at a picture of a little girl for half a second.
Mei handed him the next picture and Junjie stared at it with infinite boredom. "No, that's not her either."
He'd been through this countless time. He must've looked at every little girl born on the same date over and over and he's certain none of them were Ling Ling.
"Look again," insisted Mei. "One of them has got to be her."
"No, she's not one of them. I'm sure of it."
Mei looked back at the stack of pictures thrown messily on the table with frustration. She had led the search for Ling Ling for over a decade now without fruition.
That's got to be all of them, Mei was sure of it. She scoured the entire human world for every girl born on that day.
"Are you sure you have every child accounted for?" Asked Junjie.
"Every female, yes." She paused considering her thought. "What if she was reborn as a male?"
Junjie glared at her. "Don't you even joke about that."
"Would you consider it though?"
"My love is true, Mei. It won't matter."
"Should I gather information on every human male born on the same day?"
"No!" Said Junjie a little too quickly. "She came to me as a female, that meant she was born as a female. Quit messing around, and go find Ling Ling."
He breathed and looked beyond his window, to the outside. The dragon spirit whipping back and forth in the sky.
"Better yet, I think I would have better luck if I were to search for her myself. I could tract Ling Ling's spirit signature easily."
"With all due respect, your highness. You cannot leave your duty chasing a woman."
Junjie knew that, but his patience is wearing thin. He hasn't been the same either, he spent most of his time sprawled in his throne walloping in his loneliness, not caring for anything in the kingdom, leaving all his responsibilities to spirits beneath him.
Junjie had let the organized crimes took over within the last decade which caused a lot of headaches on his parliament.
Mei snapped her tongue, she had been Junjie's personal guard ever since he's born. She watched him grew from a tot to a handsome man, and seeing him like this frustrated her.
She may have the appearance of a toddler but she's more like a mother to him.
Mei served Junjie's father before and had been loyal to the blood of the dragon.
"You better snap out of it! You can't let the kingdom fall apart because you're wallowing in your depression. The entire spirit world is counting on their prince. Organize crimes are taking over the streets while you sit there sprawled in your throne doing nothing. Spirits are beginning to get upset, before long they're going to demand your answer."
He let his eyes roll back to her, Mei do have the tendency to scold him like she's his own mother. Even with her everlasting youthful appearance, Mei packs fire in her and Junjie often found himself yielding.
"Fine, I'll do something about the Lao's and the Chanchu's."
