Mara's P.O.V
As I walked off the plane and began collecting my luggage my phone got a text from my brother Sam.
'I can't make it to pick you up from the airport as me and Elton are shooting a super important video for our channels. Colby just left to come and get you so he should be there any time within the next 10 minutes'.
I suppose that's what happens when your parents spontaneously decide to go on a 6 month cruise and ship you off to your brother in LA as you "can't be trusted to stay at home by yourself".
Of course me wanting to be salty and make sure that Sam knows I would rather be anywhere other than here, the message I sent in return was, lets just say, straight to the point.
'Well it seems you've got a lot on your plate and the last thing you need is your sister getting in your way. Tell Colby to turn around and I'll just wait for the next flight straight back to Kansas'.
Obviously I knew it was a long shot and Sam definitely wasn't going to agree to me going home, but when I turned and saw Colby stood there looking around for me I knew it was too late. I contemplated the option of running as I doubt he'd spotted me or even knew that it was me, but before my brain could make a decision he was walking towards me.
'Hi' He said awkwardly, shooting me a smile as we came face to face.
'You look, urm..' He was struggling to get the words out.
'Different'? I said smugly, laughing at his expense.
'Yeah, they were the words I was looking for' His cheeks blushing red at the embarrassment.
We walked to the car in complete silence, but every now and then I would catch him staring at me out of the corner of my eye.
As we were just pulling out of the airport a song came on the radio and Colby began singing along to it.
'Hey Colbs, I love you and all but your signing voice is terrible' I told him, my parents have always told me that honesty was the best policy.
He grabbed his heart and pretended to be hurt and offended by what I had said previously and gave me a smile.
'We're here' He said as we pulled into a driveway and I came face to face with the house my brother had been living in for the past 5 years.
I walked inside to see Sam, and 2 other guys I recognised from my brothers YouTube videos, Elton and Corey.
Nobody batted an eyelid as I walked in, not even Sam. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting balloons and streamers, but a simple hello wouldn't have hurt him.
'Sam, I'm here' I spoke, hoping that would prompt him to turn and speak.
'Oh, hey' He turned for a split second, not making eye contact with me or Colby but then snapped back into what he was doing previously.
'Is that it Sam? Seriously? You haven't seen me for years and all I get is a hey' I snapped, becoming agitated by the fact he didn't give two fucks that I was here.
'Not now Mara. I'm busy'.
I looked at Colby who turned to face the floor, and then Elton and Corey who just stood staring at one another awkwardly.
'Oh hey! You're the famous sister of Sam. Where have you been hiding her' Another guy walked into the room, which I believe to be Aaron. He looked me up and down, a smile spread across his face.
'Get out Aaron' Colby laughed, but there seemed to be a bit of tension behind the look on his face. Aaron walked out of the room.
"Come with me, I'll show you your room" Colby broke the silence and picked up two of my bags and began walking the hallway.
