There she was again. Doing her own ritual offerings under his pale light, away from the temple and the distrust of her superiors. She looked so beautiful in her priestess regalia reciting prayers to him while showering his small statue— one she always carried everywhere— with water lily petals.
Emotions split open his immortal heart, making him yearn for her touch... for her eyes to look at him with the same adoration she gazed his idol.
Even if only for one night I desire to feel her fingers caress my skin.
It was foolish, he knew, for a god to covet a mortal so fiercely but the young priestess had captured his attention from the moment she lifted her prayers to the moon for the first time.
Looking back at his temple home in the Duat, Khonsu— god of the moon— opened a portal to the mortal world and stepped through it; his mother's and the other gods opinions be damned.
As his divine feet touched Egypt's soil, the silver radiance of his skin and eyes toned down to a soft glow but the rest of him remained unchanged. He wanted her to see him for who he was even if it meant concealing them from other humans.
"Your offerings are most welcomed."
The young woman turned around and gasped as her dark eyes widened. She immediately bowed, refusing to look at him while saying between tears how undeserving of his visit she was.
That wasn't what he wanted.
Kneeling beside her, the god lifted her face and asked her to treat him like any other human. When she agreed, he helped her to her feet. His hands lingered over hers for the longest and briefest of moments, making his skin tingle.
Needing to feel more of his sweet mortal, Khonsu embraced her and buried his nose in her black hair, murmuring sweet words to her. She stiffened at first but relaxed once the endearments began rolling off his tongue.
"Why have you graced me with your presence when not even the High Priestess has received such honor?"
"Because you're my favorite not her. It's your smile I wanted to see," he whispered, cupping her cheek. "Your fingers I wanted over my skin." The god grabbed her hand and guided it to his own cheek, revealing in the warm sweetness of her touch. "From among all my servants I love you."
Shocked from having her patron god's affection without doing anything more than showing devotion, Reda gave him that which he hadn't taken already: a smile.
A smile for the god she secretly loved as well.
Khonsu would've wept from joy if it were possible for the gods to shed tears. His priestess' smile was the most beautiful thing he had seen in all the realms. Perfect in every way just like her.
Looking into her dark orbs, he kissed the corner of her mouth and huskily offered, "Let me show you the world even if only for one night."
