It was a late september's night on Puerto Rico. One like so many others Patricia had to go through since her father was called for duty. He was a lieutenant in the USA Army and had served his country since he was 18. A fact that had always filled Patricia with pride and her mother with fear. Everytime the news told something about the war in Iraq, Patricia would go to bed hearing her mother cry in her room. And this night was no different.
Suddenly a warm breeze followed by a shimmering light came from the direction of her close window. The light shone brighter and changed form until an angel stood in place of the light. It was Patricia's guardian angel, Mahasiah. He was a tall man with white skin, beautiful golden eyes and bright golden-red hair that flowed between two enormous snow white wings on his back.
Knowing her mother wouldn't hear or see anything because of Mahasiah's powers, Patricia got up from bed and threw her arms at the angel hugging him tightly.
"You're here!"
"I am", Mahasiah said in a calming voice. "I sensed you needed me", he explained hugging back his beautiful tanned doll.
"Mother is crying again... You know why. Daddy had never been called to battle before so mommy thinks he won't be coming back again. I know Daddy will come home! But mommy..." Patricia hesitated before continuing in a whisper. "She has lost faith."
"You must help her find it again."
"I know. But will you promise me one thing?" Patricia put her best sad puppy eyes. "Will you protect daddy until he comes home? For mother's sake! Please!"
"Protecting Jose Garcia Alicea is not my duty, Patricia", the angel said in a soft voice, his will almost breaking to her plea.
"But if you protect him, I will be happy! That way you will also be doing your job!"
Mahasiah turned around to leave.
"I will be scolded if something happens to you while I'm away but you are right, Patricia", said the angel in a soft whisper. "I, Mahasiah the light protector, will honor your request."
After that a light surrounded Mahasiah's body and he vanished the same way he appeared.
Mahasiah was never one to like battles. The reason of this lay on emphatic powers that make him feel every emotion around him. But he had given his word to Patricia and would do anything in his power to assure that Lt. Jose Garcia Alicea would leave alive from this hell.
Said lieutenant was camping with his companions inside an old building. His guardian angel was nowhere to be seen as happen with some of his friends. That was a bad sign. Guardian angels will only leave when their charges were marked for Death to come and take them.
Mahasiah was surely going to get scolded for this; maybe even punished. Why? Because now he had to steal a soul from Death himself.

Shortly after his arrival on Iraq, Mahasiah saved Patricia's father by jaming the trigger of a sniper, giving the lieutenant enough time to kill the enemy soldier. Weeks after he save Jose from been bitten by a cobra while fighting off enemy fire. The last time was a couple of days ago.
Patricia's dad hadn't been sleeping because of terrible nightmares so he wasn't paying attention to the ground when his foot had miraculously stopped inches away from stepping on a land mine. The lieutenant was as surprised as Mahasiah was relieve for his quick action.
Then one moonless night He had come.
"Why are you keeping me from doing my job, Mahasiah?" Questioned the black hooded figure with a big scythe in his hands.
"He must live." Mahasiah said with conviction.
"You do not decide the human's destiny." Said the reaper with red eyes fixed on the angel. "I'm only following the Lord's orders but I understand why you are risking this much... It's because of the girl. Because of Patricia. You care too much for her... So in exchange for her father's life, I want you to make a deal with me..."
But enough of that. Those were only memories now. The important thing was that he kept his word and saved Lt. Jose Garcia Alicea. It was already time to return home and the lieutenant was among the survivors. But Mahasiah's promise wouldn't truly be completed until Patricia's father entered his home.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Back in Puerto Rico, a tanned girl with long brown hair and olive green eyes waited happily by her mother's side the return of her father. It was Christmas eve and they had been told that the soldiers were coming back that day.
When Lt. Garcia arrived in the airport relief invaded his body but was quickly replaced by inmense joy when he saw his family waiting for him. He didn't wasted time and went straight to them, took his daughter- Patricia- in his arms and kissed her. Then with the girl still in his arms he kissed his wife whispering: "I missed you so much", again and again.
Wrapped inside her father's strong arms, Patricia felt like her heart was going to explode from happiness. Her daddy was home; she almost couldn't believe it!
She felt someone observing her while still being wrapped in her happiness. Patricia looked over her father's shoulder and saw her beautiful guardian looking at them. She winked at Mahasiah and mouthed a silent "thank you" for all he had risked in her behalf. It was all she could do at the moment, but later she would thank him properly. Because that was the right way of treating family... And Mahasiah was already a member of her beautiful family.
