And, because I was bored the other day and haven't written shit in ages, I asked for drabble prompts on Twitter again. Thanks everyone who helped out! There are more, but I'm not done getting through them all yet so I'll split it up.
Separation (PG-13)
Scott's in the middle of Mitch's bed, surrounded by suitcases, looking as morose as Mitch is pretending he doesn't feel.
"We go on tour in four months. It's not like this is the end."
Scott snorts. "Still feels like it."
It does. Mitch sighs. "My uber will be here soon."
Scott unfolds himself from the impossibly small ball he's been in, wrapping Mitch in a hug. "New York will love you."
Fuck, he hopes so. A flicker of doubt kicks in, as always. "You could still come?"
He smiles sadly. "No, I can't."
No, he can't. That's the whole point.
Ash and Dust (PG-13)
Mitch usually skips these things, a bunch of suburban teens jumping around to bad music, pretending it's more meaningful than an excuse to get wasted.
But this is Scott and Kirstie's last bonfire. They're heading to college, following their dreams. He has no doubt they'll both leave Arlington in their dust.
Scott catches his eye, tilting his bottle in silent offer. For a moment it's like old times, like the months of weirdness between them have finally vanished.
Mitch nods. Maybe another drink will clear the dust clogging his throat. Or maybe he just won't be able to feel it.
