I hated how I loved Zayn's comfort. I shouldn't allow myself to start to get attached to him when in a matter of days, we were going to be strangers again

After my second meltdown of the day, I was exhausted.

Zayn and I headed back inside after sitting in the treehouse for a bit. My parents had just arrived with pizza. They were all sitting at the table with Mark, Easton, Bonnie, Alex and the kids.

"Grab some food, dear and have a seat." My mom told me.

Zayn grabbed two plates and put a slice of pizza on each. He handed me one and I thanked him. I didn't want things to get totally awkward between us now.

He pulled out a chair for me and I sat down. I knew that the questions would be coming.

"So, Zayn, how did you and (Y/n) meet?" My mom asked him.

I looked over at Zayn. This was his test to see if he really could pull all of this off.

"She and I met on a blind date. Her friend, Camille set us up." Zayn answered. I thought it was a brilliant idea that included Camille. It made it seem that much more real.

"How long have you two been together?" Easton asked us.

"About three months." I answered.

"How come when I would ask if you were seeing someone, you would tell me that you weren't?" My mom questioned.

"Well, I didn't really know how things were going between Zayn and I. I didn't want to jinx it." I said. I felt really happy with my answer because it would be something that I would do.

"I'm just glad that you are happy, dear." My dad smiled.

Zayn leaned over and kissed my cheek. I felt my cheeks heat up. I looked over at him and he was smiling. It was getting harder to remember that this was all fake. I would have to come up with more lies when my parents ask what happened between Zayn and I.

I was in the middle of wondering what I would tell him, when my phone buzzed on the table. I jumped as I looked to see to text me. It was Damon.

"Who is Damon?" Zayn whispered.

"Just a coworker." I answered as everyone else was in the middle of their own conversations.

He nodded, and left it at that.

....

After dinner, I helped clean up with my brothers while everyone else went into the family room.

"So, (Y/n), are you and Zayn pretty serious?" Mark asked me.

"Well, I wouldn't have brought him to meet everyone if we weren't."

"How well do you know the guy?"

I stopped cleaning the table and looked over at him, "What?"

"Don't get mad, I'm just wondering how well you know him. I mean, you just bring him here and we didn't have any clue that you were actually seeing someone."

"Because I didn't want you guys to know about him until now." I said. My brother was being very annoying.

"Okay. I just don't want you to get hurt." Mark told me.

I didn't want to get hurt either, but it seemed like that was going to be inevitable.

"That guy seems really familiar, like I've met him before or seen him before." Easton said.

"He's never been to the area, I don't think."

Easton shrugged his shoulders, "Maybe he just has a familiar face or something."
