I had set an alarm on my phone for 2:15 A.M. Levi told me the time the telephone usually went off was about 2:25-2:30-ish. So if I left around 2:15 I'd have an extra ten to fifteen minutes to sneak out, get Sundae and walk over, and sneak over to Levi's house and pray I wouldn't be caught by Mr. Clearance.
I had to admit I was a bit nervous and afraid. I had never done anything like sneak out like this before, let alone with some aggressive, ornery jerk in the house. His room was somewhat close to mine so I'd have to be dead silent.
I got out of bed as slow and steady as I could, making sure my bed wouldn't creak too much and my footsteps would make no noise on the cold hardwood floor. I grabbed my jacket laying on my bed, slipped my converse on without even thinking to tie them, and put my snarly bed-hair in a bun. I creeped down the hallway, past Mr. Clearance's room without a peep. So far, success.
It normally would have taken me maybe five to ten seconds to walk down the stairs, but when I was creeping this slow and steady, it must have taken me over a minute. Now was the big part: actually sneaking out.
I crept across the kitchen to the back door, checking for anything that looked like an alarm would go off if I opened the door. I didn't see anything suspicious. I slowly unlocked it and threw myself outside, closing it as silent as possible.
I could hear a dog collar jingle like a bell as soon as I started walking down the deck steps. Sure enough, tall and beautiful Sundae popped out from the darkness and started heavily panting with excitement. I was crossing my fingers he wouldn't howl or bark or do anything that would blow my cover.
"Ssshhhhhh, good boy Sundae," I whispered. "We're going to Levi's. Come on boy." I patted my leg as he, without any hesitation whatsoever, trotted beside me, as we both walked to the front yard so we could head into Levi's yard, and through his basement window. I assumed he was awake, waiting for me. I really didn't want to have to pound on his window and wake him up or startle him. I spotted his window in the basement, and crept across the damp, bright green grass that must had been watered just hours ago.
When I arrived at his window, I could see him inside though through the glass. His face lit up when he saw me, but his tired, sleep-deprived-looking eyes told me he had not slept at all and had been waiting around for me this whole time. Was this all worth it over him showing me some creepy telephone call that was probably someone prank calling or some kind of spam?
He slid his screenless window open as I realized it probably wouldn't be best for Sundae's wet, possibly muddy paws to come inside his nice house.
"It was dumb of me to bring Sundae. He can't come in, he'll track mud and water all over your house."
He let out a sigh that showed he was rethinking things. Apparently that didn't bother him though.
"Sundae is an obedient, and well-behaved dog. I trust him in my house and I can even wipe off his paws."
I shrugged. "Suit yourself. Come on, Sundae!"
His violent panting from excitement increased, as he crawled down into the windowell, and through the window. Sundae gave Levi's hand a lick, as Levi patted his head. Levi was probably closer with Sundae and knew more about him than I did. Obviously; This was only my second time being with the dog.
Levi walked over to a door across the room which evidently was a small bathroom connected to his room. Who knew if the toilet, sink, or shower even worked, but he pulled a towel off of a drying rack, and quickly wiped off Sundae's paws.
"We got to hurry," he said in a panic. "It should be going off any minute now."
He put the now dirty towel on the counter in his bathroom, and grabbed by hand.
