I woke up late in the morning. When I had finally gotten out of bed and went downstairs in the kitchen to eat something. The oven clock said ten-thirty. I couldn't find Mr. Clearance anywhere which was partly a concern, but also a relief. I found a note by the fridge that read:
Left for work. I'll be home around five or six. If you get hungry there's food in the pantry.

Mr. Clearance

I crumpled it the moment I finished reading it. He really had to sign Mr. Clearance? He, himself, couldn't even call himself dad for me? Oh well. I frankly wanted to just start pretending I wasn't related to him in any way, and just pretend he was some rude, random man who adopted me. On the bright side, I had Levi as a next door neighbor now, plus the would be gone all day. So Levi and I could have plenty of time together.

I stood in front of the pantry looking for something decent to eat for breakfast. My phone chimed in the countertop and was filled with joy when I saw who had texted me. It was Drake:

So how's it going living with your dad? I'm gonna come by today and pick you up so we can go do something together and you can tell me about your new house and stuff, sound good?

Of course it sounded good! Although, Levi would be watching out for me. If I never showed up outside or at his house he'd probably start thinking my dad caught me and I was in trouble. Maybe I'd be back before this afternoon and Levi and I would still have plenty of time together. I decided to reply with:

It's going good... ish. I'll tell you about it when I see you today. He already left for work and won't be home until later this evening, so I've got all day.

I had to make up an excuse to be able to get home at least mid afternoon.

Although, he said I need to do some yard work this afternoon so we'll have to be home by 2 or 3.

He replied with a Sounds good, and I figured breakfast would be a waste of my time. I didn't even feel hungry and everything sounded unappetizing. I'd just go get ready and Drake would probably take me out for lunch in a few hours anyway.

I made it a bad habit for myself throughout the day to constantly check out my window to see if Levi was outside or not. Half of me wanted him to be each time, but at the same time I didn't want him worried so it was a bit of a relief each time I checked and still, no Levi.

Drake said he would come by around noon, but showed up about fifteen minutes early. Like it mattered to me though. I was bored out of my mind. I threw on my converse and got the door.

"Hey! You look nice," I greeted. He smiled and shrugged.

"I suppose. You look quite nice yourself."

I just smiled, hiding a blush.

"Come on," he gestured cheerfully.

We got into his car as he squinted towards Levi's house and my heart skipped a beat as I turned my head to see Levi outside doing yard work, staring towards the car. I could tell he was trying to make it look as though he didn't notice us.

"Do you know him?" Drake asked with almost concern in his voice.

"Um... I met him yesterday but... I don't really know him. I can't even remember his name," I lied, my ears burning.

Drake continued staring as he put the car in reverse, and the look in his eyes reminded me of the same look his ex-girlfriend Holly looked at us both at the basketball game at the high school. And as I turned my eyes only to catch a glimpse of Levi to see if he was looking at us, he seemed to have the exact same jealous look in his eye as we completely backed out of the driveway, and turned the cold-e-sack.
