The vibrating phone woke Tracie from her sleep. She looked around for her phone, patting down her blankets. She spotted it on her white bedside table. She picked it up and squinted her eyes at the bright screen. 31 unread messages. She groaned and fell back onto her teal bedspread.
It was her 18th birthday. May 29th.
Once again, her phone vibrated at least 35 times simultaneously. She turned off the ringer and got into the shower. In 10 minutes, she shaved her legs and thoroughly washed her long blonde hair.
She got out and wrapped a pink towel around herself and walked over to her closet. "Why can't I just wear sweatpants?" She asked aloud. But if you're popular, sweatpants are out of the question.
She pulled on a soft navy blue dress that stopped a little bit above her knee. She put on a diamond necklace with matching earrings, courtesy of her best friend Rachel.
She stopped in front of her body length mirror, staring into her hazel eyes, then made sure that nothing, not even a strand of hair was out of place before swinging her purse on her shoulder and going downstairs where her mom was cooking.
"Happy birthday honey!" She exclaimed pulling a cake pan out of the oven. "I made you some pancakes." She said smiling.
"Oh, I would but, on a diet. I'll eat at the resturaunt tonight though, sorry." She said painting a frown on her face.
"Oh yeah, I forgot." her mom said with a crooked smile, "that's fine," Tracie said looking at the clock 6:30, "Crap! I gotta go to school! Love you!" She shouted running out of the house, grabbing the car keys. "Love you too." Her mom replied smiling.
She clicked the unlock button on her key ring and heard a click from the cyan Audi r8. She opened her door and was going to get inside when she heard some one shout her name.
She looked around, trying to find the person the words belonged to, when her eyes fell upon a kid walking on her sidewalk. "Oh, hey Chuck." She said ducking inside the car. Chuck walked up to the side of the car. "That's all you say to your boyfriend?" He said, climbing into the passenger seat.
"Sorry, I must be in a daze today." She replied sassily, starting the car. The engine purred as she backed out of the driveway.
"I'll say." He said rolling his eyes. "Oh, happy birthday." "Thanks I guess." She said back.
They drove up in front of the school and got out. Instantly people swarmed around her talking about their new phones, awesome cars, and her birthday. She could see guys looking at her body and girls looking jealous.
She walked inside, the posse following. She got to her locker and turned around smiling. "Hey guys!" She exclaimed happily. All Of them said hi back. There must've been about 10. She turned back around and opened her locker, rolling her eyes.
She loved all of the attention. She had to put on a show. She turned back around and accepted the flow of gifts and hugs. When finally Mrs. Johnson dispersed the crowd.
"Thanks." Tracie said annoyed. Mrs. Johnson gave a sigh and turned around, walking away.
"OH TRAAACE!!" She heard her friends squeal in singsongfrom a few yards away. When they got up to her, they gave their gifts and started talking all at once. "So what are you and Chuck doing tonight?" Brittney asked raising an eyebrow. "You got any birthday plans with the fam?" Kate asked.
