The week goes by super slow, dragging itself out just to torture me. The popular group either ignored me or gave me a shove or rude comment. I just ignored it but it still did sting.

The only thing that made it better was seeing Carter everyday. What had I gotten myself into?

As I walked through the halls on the last day, I smiled, knowing that I would soon be over at Carter's house. I skipped all the way to school, earning myself weird looks the whole time.

As I entered the school, Kate rushed up to me, I found this odd because she refused to acknowledge my existence after I ate fries.

"Tracie.." She said looking down. "Yes?" I asked annoyed at my once best friend. She just stood there.

"I'm sorry." She said I was taken away by what came out of her mouth. Kate NEVER apologized to anyone, ever none of the popular kids did, another stupid rule.

Then I noticed what was in her hand, a pair of jade earrings, her favorite ones. I must look like a dumb potato from being so surprised.

"Trace?" She asked waving her hand in front of my face. I snapped out of my delusion. "Yeah." I replied. Then she held out the hand with the earrings in them, motioning me to take them. I looked at her confused.

"I want you to have them," She said, "I know how much you like them." She said. "Oh, thanks." I say, breathless she just nods.

Then I noticed her outfit. "Umm, what are you wearing?" I ask. "Sweatpants." She says, earning me a smile.

"Wow, Ive never seen you wear sweats, even to bed." I say. Today was getting off to a weird start.

"Yeah, I figured why lose a friend over food and clothes." She said smiling. I smiled back at my friend. Glad I could call her that again. She pulled me into a hug.

"I've missed you so much." She said. "Me too." I say, hugging her back. "Hey." A familiar voice says behind me.

I turn around. "Brit?" I ask. "Hey." She said shyly. She s never not been peppy. I look down to see her sporting the same look as Kate. "Wow." I say, looking her up and down.

"Yeah, I know." She said. I gave her a hug. I had missed them so much. She gasped at my sudden affection and hugged me back.

We stepped back and looked at each other. "Well?" I ask smiling. "Fill me in."

"Later, we've gotta get to class." She said hinting me to the clock. "Shit." I say, class starts in 2 minutes and my class is on the other side of the school, and I still have to get to my locker.

I ended up being late to gym but they were still getting dressed out for cheer so it didn't matter. Coach made us do conditioning. On the last day of school. Conditioning is rigorous workouts with few breaks.

I walk inside the school, the cool rush of air instantly relieves me as I walk towards the locker room to get changed.

It's lunch time and I haven't seen Carter all day, I can't wait to fill him in on my mended friendships.

"Hey trace, over here!" I hear Kate shout. I look over at her. Then I see Carter enter the cafeteria. I'm standing in the middle of the walkway like an idiot.

Not wanting to risk our friendship again over one stupid fluke, I walk over to Kate, "Hey, follow me." I say, grabbing her wrist. She hesitates, "Trust me." I say pulling her again. She follows reluctantly as I sit down next to Carter. "He- Oh, you." He says making a disgusted face at Kate.

"What did I do?" She asks, sitting down. "You're a popular, duh." He says back, clearly irritated. "She s cool." I say, Carter backs down but his expression says he's still uneasy.
