"He's alive."
Kagome stared down at her twinning thumbs as she awaited news of her punishment. Shippo had been taken by a reaper who said she would oversee the kit's recovery while she was waiting to be seen by the prince of Reikai. Kirara trailed behind the girl at Kagome's request. A Reikai with a reaper that hummed and skipped down to the infirmary was a little disconcerting, nonetheless, it was the least of her concerns.
Yusuke was alive. Not just alive, but kicking and kicking demon tushie as a top detective for Reikai's prince. A prince that knew about the Shikon.
According to Yusuke Reikai wasn't after the Shikon, the prince only wanted to speak to her about her possession of it. Kagome didn't doubt Yusuke. Of the many things he was, Yusuke wasn't a lair. It was one of the few things Atsuko got right. Despite her knowledge of this something deep within needled her not to go beyond the doors. Something that whispered one dark word that made her question her sanity and future.
"Betrayed..."
Maybe just a peek wouldn't hurt?

"You don't know who you're talkin about toddler!"
Kurama had long stopped any attempts to placate his enraged teammate and instead watched with curiosity as the spirit detective engaged in a one-sided glaring match with Koenma. Although the former thief was somewhat used to Yusuke's temper, to say the boy's reaction intrigued him was almost an understatement. As rare as it was that Yusuke's temper flared, it was extraordinary for it to reach this point.
Who was this Kagome?
He glanced at Koenma shifting as if a nest of red ants had invaded his seat. The downsized demigod refused to meet any of their gazes, his eyes instead darting to the oversized door and back. "No, Yusuke, I'm sure of it," said Koenma. "Whether she knows it or not, that girl possesses a great power no human should have. We cannot allow her to keep the Shikon no Tama!"
Yusuke took a step forward at Koenma's words. "Look, toddler, I know Kagome better than any guy in Ningenkai!" he said gesturing toward the door. "I'm tellin ya you've got the wrong girl!"
"Yusuke, you promised."
The ache beneath the whisper turned all eyes to the entrance.
There stood the young woman from Koenma's images, eyes narrow and swimming in tears.
Kurama shivered. Something about this Kagome roused his inner demon and made his heart ache at her tears.
"Only wanted to talk my ass," she spat suddenly. Yusuke watched her, eyes clouded with confusion as she started to chuckle. "If you think I'm some kind of weapon, something you hope to keep under your all-powerful pinkie you're sorely mistaken, demigod. I owe my existence to this jewel. You want it, take it."
With that, the pale jewel soared through the air.
"Catch it, you fools," Koenma screamed.
Kuwabara reached for it... as a force hurled him into the neighboring wall. Kagome stood in his place, the jewel snagged between her small fingers and the corner of her lips quirked in an arrogant smile. "Did I forget to say 'if you can'?"

Kagome surveyed the group from beneath her lashes. What had gotten into her she did not know. And at this moment she didn't care. She had believed Yusuke and this was what she got. Another wanted poster, a sack of lies, and a room filled with the stench of urine.
The last one she cared not to evaluate, instead allowing herself another sniff of the room.
Her fists clenched at her side. Something deep inside her threatened to snap at the scent of roses and men's Dove. Words seemed to flow before she could turn around.
"Hello, Yoko." Her lips twisted into a callous smile as she observed the tall redhead. Watching his aura was like watching an amoeba reproduce. For some reason, it amused her. "Hijacked a human body I see?"
Kagome laughed as he stiffened. Her body was no longer her own, whatever force was driving her stuck out a tongue and taunted, "Is curiosity killing the kitsune?" A low rumble she could barely make out as a growl emerged as she approached the redhead. "Don't remember me? Too bad. You want answers? Catch me."
Like watching a movie, her body moved of its own accord, balancing on her toes until scarlet tendrils tickled her nose, "Just so you know, I don't lose."
