Denver

I had to say, I was pretty mad to find out that Emmaline had ditched me in the woods. I was even more mad when I found out that she had stabbed Reuben. I ran into the dungeon, hearing Max screaming and I looked over. The knife was plunged into Reuben's back and Emmaline was grinning. I ran over to Max, her eyes were red and she was screaming. I hugged her and rubbed my arms down her back, trying to calm her down. Emmaline walked over, carrying the knife and pointing it at me. I stood up and shot my hand out, enflaming the knife. She screamed and dropped it.

"Denver! You'll never win! Just give up..." Her hand was black from where I burned it, and her eyes were glowing. Max was trying to heal Denver, she tried freezing the wound shut. But even I knew it wouldn't work, it was too late.

"Reuben please. Please don't die on me." Max sobbed out. I glanced at Emmaline and saw her smirk. She slowly reached down and picked up the knife, walking towards Max.

"Max, look out!" I yelled, shooting fire towards Emmaline. She dodged it and walked closer to Max, pointing the knife towards her back.

Max turned around and screamed, causing Emmaline to drop the knife. Max reached for it and threw herself against Emmaline, pointing the knife at her throat.

"Emmaline, you have no power. You shall leave, or you shall die. Choose." She gasped for air and closed her eyes. Max held the knife there, pusing it closer and closer to her throat. I sat beside Reuben and used my magic, some bandages, and medicene to heal the wound. He was unconsicous, muttering something about how he loved Max.

Emmaline spoke quietly, "I... I will leave." Max released her, wiping the beaded sweat from her forehead, and dropped the knife. Emmaline started to walk out, her eyes now a calm green, rather than a piercing emerald color. She walked to the door and opened it, turning her head to us she whispered something. The door shut, leaving the three of us alone in the dark.

Max ran over to Reuben, she had tears running down her face as she sat his head on her lap. I stepped back, giving them some time.

"Reuben, it's Max. You're going to be okay. Emmaline's gone, it's fine. We're safe." She was trying to sound happy and positive, but I could see the tears roll down her face.

"Max..." Reuben croaked, beckoning for her to come closer. "Will... will you sing to me?" His eyes were dark, like he knew it was coming. Max choked back a sob and nodded.

"Of coure." She said, rubbing the tears from her eyes,  as she stroked his hair.

"Oh come on down to the Village, where the sun and the stars shine..." She began, her voice cracking. "Where everyone is smiling, and everyone is kind. The people sing their happy song to praise the one they love. The happy song, for happy ones, the song of the Nethers." Her voice was quiet, drowned out by the sound of her crying, but Reuben stared at her like she had the voice of an angel.

"And you say you can't sing..." He sputtered out before his body became still. There was a moment of silence. I walked over and saw his face, once full of life and joy, was dead.

Reuben was dead.
