"Emmaline." I gasped. I couldn't believe it. She wouldn't do this, it's not her.

"Are you surprised Maxine?" She asked walking into the middle of the dungeon towards me and Reuben. "Bet you didn't see this coming?"

I was at a loss of words. "Emmaline, why? What did I do to you? What did Reuben and Denver do?" She laughed, her eyes glowing a emerald green, the same color as her vines.

"You did nothing my child. Nothing at all. I just need someone to use for the prophecy. And Denver was... well. He wasn't strong enough for sacrifice. Too much of a runt." I was going to strangle her.

"Hey!" I yelled walking towards her. "No one calls my brother a runt but me! Now let us-" I was cut off by Emmaline's vines entrapping me. They wrapped around my ankles causing me to fall face forward. They wrapped around my mouth and my wrists. I couldn't move.

"Now that she's quiet, I can finally start this silly thing. Reuben, if you would please give me hand." She looked at him with a grim smile stretching across her face. Her eyes glowing bright.

"No." He said. "I will not help you, let alone stand by and watch you destroy everything just so you can be ruler. I won't stand for it." Emmaline rolled her eyes and shot her vines towards Reuben, but he rolled out of the way and she ended up shooting the wall.

"Reuben, you will help me or I will kill Maxine. Your choice, now choose." I wanted to scream at him. Don't do it! I thought. I'm not worth it!

He shook his head. "I choose Max, and nothing will ever change that." If I wasn't tied up I would've kissed him then and there. Emmaline laughed and freed me. Reuben and I gave each other puzzled looks, not knowing what to think. I quickly shot my hand out, trying to freeze her, but Emmaline dodged it.

She made a tsk noise, shaking her head. "Oh come on now Maxine, you'll never win with that kind of fighting. You need to go like this." She shot out vines and they wrapped around Reuben, pulling him into the air and suffocating him. I ran towards her, shooting ice at the vines. But nothing happened, it just made the vines stronger.

"Max! Help!" Reuben croaked. He couldn't take much more, he would suffocate. I felt the tears fall down again and I kept freezing the vines, hoping I could shatter it. Emmaline was laughing behind me, yelling insults. I felt myself getting colder and colder. I couldn't take it anymore. I turned towards her and screamed.

'ENOUGH!" I sent shards of ice everywhere, flying around the dungeon and hitting Emmaline. She fell backwards and her vines loosened from Reuben's neck. I ran towards him and hugged him, feeling the hollowness of his body. He must've been locked in here for days. He kissed my forehead, while I nuzzled myself into his shoulder.

"I love you Reuben." I said kissing him back. "I love you so much." We stayed like this a little while longer. Just the two of us together, peaceful and in love. I wouldn't lose him ever again, he was mine and I was his. I was so happy.

Until Emmaline shoved a knife into Reuben's back.
