chapter 1
"syd, who's that guy over there?" my friend hannah whispered.
"leather jacket and lip ring guy?" i stared at him.
he was breathtaking. he was tall, really tall. his eyes a color i had never seen before. blue like the color of the ocean, fragile. but they had something else in them. compassion. love. lust. his smile lit up the room, but there was something more about it. his teeth shiny and white. his tongue grazing over his lip ring.
"yeah." she replied, and smirked at me when she saw me staring.
"i don't know..." i said, and after a long pause i continued, "let's go find out."
we walked down the hallway, approaching him.
"wait." hannah halted.
"what?" i asked, concerned.
"i'm not good with boys." she sighed.
"okay. fine. go back to our table and wait for calum." i smiled at the thought of him.
she nodded and walked back.
"hi." i sat in front of him.
"do i know you?" he said abruptly.
"um no, my name is-" "i don't care." he interrupted.
"you'll never make friends this way."
"i'm not here to make friends, i'm here not to spend this time with my shitty parents." he didn't make eye contact.
"hey! you just somewhat made conversation. that's step one if you want a friend. you said your parents where shitty." i smirked.
"you're lucky you're hot." he mocked, finally staring at me.
"oh please, you just need a friend." i chuckled standing him up.
"noooo...." he moaned and i took his hand and led him out of the room.
"you're annoying." he said.
"i have a name." i scolded.
"one that you haven't told me." he smiled for the first time.
"you said you didn't care." i replied.
"well, if you want to be friends, you have to tell me." he bit his lip.
"sydney garcia, and may i ask yours?" i giggled.
"luke hemmings." he smiled.
"well you're not such a tough egg to crack, mr.hemmings." i laughed.
"because no one tries to get to know me, they all just assume i'll beat them up for lunch money or some basic shit." he looked at me.
"you're funny too, huh?" i laughed.
"i guess.." he shrugged.
"so," I said moving on, "tell me something no one knows. your darkest, deepest secrets. let me into your soul." i stared at him creepily.
"um, no thanks." he awkwardly laughed.
"awe, come on luke." i begged.
"fine, only if you tell me something about you." he offered.
"alright, i'll go first." i thought about my statement. "um... ok, my middle name is anne." I blushed.
"sydney anne." luke repeated, "i like it." he smiled.
"your turn blondie." i smirked.
"my middle name is roberts." he looked down.
"well if lucas robert hemmings doesn't sound like a bad boy name i don't know who's name does." i said sarcastically.
"that's the thing," luke laughed, "i don't use it... and my full name isn't lucas."
"does it look like i care." i copied him.
"you're so annoying, sydney anne." he smiled.
"call me syd, lucas." i stuck my tongue out at him.
"not if you keep calling me lucas, sydney anne." he warned.
"truce." i agreed. "truce." he shared.
"well i'll see you around syd." he said, closing the conversation.
"see ya later... lucas." i giggled and ran back into the cafeteria.
i entered the cafeteria and went to the table hannah and calum where at.
"hey guys." i smiled.
"hey sydney." calum smiled back.
i ran over to hug him and kiss his cheek.
"so...?" hannah wiggled her eyebrows.
"what?" i blushed.
"you and mr.lip ring?" hannah said, obviously knowing i knew what she was talking about.
"oh..." i giggled.
"who?" calum asked.
"sydney's boyfriendddddd!" hannah teased.
"what?" calum shot me a look.
"uh.. he's not- we're not dating..." i awkwardly blushed.
"sureee.." hannah said, extending the pronunciation.
i just shook my head and chuckled.
