chapter 5
i woke up to the smell of coffee and waffles.
i flipped myself over and realized luke wasn't next to me.
he must be making breakfast, i thought to myself.
i quickly checked my phone; 12:17 pm.
i walked down the hallway into the kitchen to find a shirtless luke mixing waffle batter.
he turned around at the sound of me walking towards him.
"hi." he blushed.
"morning." i smiled.
"morning." he repeated and hugged me.
"what time did you wake up?" i asked.
"like 20 minutes ago." he shrugged.
i nodded and studied his features for a second.
"i'm gonna go shower." i said and left the kitchen.
after i showered i put on a white nirvana shirt, skinny black ripped jeans, and black converse.
i decided to throw on luke's red and blue flannel from last night too.
i put on light makeup and some lipstick.
i left my hair down in a wavy-curly way.
"i hope you don't mind i used your flannel." i chuckled, sitting down in front of my breakfast.
"it's okay, you look amazing." luke bit his lip.
"thanks... i'd say the same, but you're half naked." i giggled.
"well i'll go get dressed." he blushed.
"don't eat without me!" he yelled running into my bedroom as i laughed as his childness.
he came back 3 minutes later, with calum's plain black shirt and his own black skinny jeans, with some black vans.
"you look black." i sarcastically said.
"like my soul." he rolled his eyes.
we sat, ate breakfast, and made small talk.
when we finished we watched some tv.
2:30 pm came around and we where bored.
"wanna go to the mall?" i faced luke from our position on the couch.
"sure." he sighed and stood up.
"look, if you wanna stay home, just tell me." i said, referring to last night.
"no... i want to, honestly. i need to clear my head." he croaked.
"okay..." i said slowly, "let's go."
we were making our way to the mall when luke stopped at the gas station.
"luke, let's just get something at the mall." i groaned.
"wait for me here." he demanded.
i was gonna say something, but there's really no point in arguing with him.
he came out with a pack of cigarettes.
"you smoke?" i was surprised.
"i do now." he mumbled, lighting it.
"luke..." i said, knowing this had something to do with his parents.
he just gave me a look, like he knew what i was going to say.
"you can't just kill yourself inside luke, don't torture yourself because of their death. metaphorically and physically speaking." i sighed, watching him inhale the nicotine.
"it was classified as murder." he sighed, and a tear escaped his eyes.
"don't cry." i said wiping under his eyes.
"it's not a metaphor, i just need a goddamned cigarette." he stated.
i chuckled and took his hand, "c'mon...".
we arrived at the mall and walked into the food court.
"starbucks?" i suggested.
"yeah." he answer.
"hi! welcome to starbucks what would you like?" the cashier asked.
"a tall chocolate chip frappé and a tall caramel frappé please." i smiled.
"okay your names?" she questioned.
"he's luke and i'm sydney." i grinned.
"you two are such a cute couple, your total is $7.72." she giggled.
"we're not dating, and thank you." i blushed while luke smiled.
"oh i'm sorry..." she blushed, "have a great day."
"you too." i empathized.
as we waited for our frappachinos luke spoke up,
"she thought we were a couple."
"yeah." i laughed awkwardly.
"let's pretend we are." he blurted out.
"umm..." i mumbled, red faced.
"i- uh... sorry... haha" he chuckled awkwardly.
"it's okay." i gushed.
"luke! sydney!" the lady shouted.
"thanks." luke smiled and got the two cups in his large hands.
"gracias." i spoke.
"don't play hispanic, garcia." he mocked me.
i rolled my eyes and we walked around the mall doing pointless things and buying shit we didn't need.
it was fun. and i had to admit, luke was the reason why.
