Setting a goal on how many words to write in a chapter.
Setting a goal to a certain amount of words written in a chapter is important to me. I often do this to balance out the things I've written in a chapter. I do this so I know when to stop writing and when to keep writing, it's also for when balancing out not to reveal too much in a chapter and not too less so it's balanced !
Usually my word count goal is 1000 words or more so I know when to wrap up my chapter :)
Short on words?
Linking to the last one ^ I might have set a word count goal but sometimes I can't always reach it because I run out of ideas or simply just have a writer's block.
What I do is elaborate the situation, elaborating the situation will help those words increase in no time, this is what I do often to reach that 1000 words.
You want to have a statement sentence / opening statement then an explain statement.
for example;
[not elaborated] Jaehwan felt like he was about to throw up. The boy didn't know why he felt so nauseous today.
[elaborated] Jaehwan felt like he was about to throw up. The boy didn't know why he felt so nauseous today but he figured it may be because of how much he drank with Sungwoon last night. After all, it was the older boy's birthday. Jaehwan was just too in to the party that he might've gone a little wild.
Of course you want the explain sentence to fit with whatever your character is doing though !
Also, there are other things you can elaborate other than the situation, you can also elaborate how the character feels, what a certain place looks like [desrcibe the place in detail], how a character looks and etc.
for example, here's one on how the character feels.
[not elaborated] Jihoon felt extremely happy today.
[elaborated] Jihoon felt extremely happy today. A bright smile plastered upon the older boy's lips and his noticeably twinkling eyes gave Woojin a hint of how happy he was. Jihoon couldn't believe he just scored his crush's phone number. He felt like he was on cloud nine because of the sparks flowing throughout his body.
Most of the time, elaborating really helps me with writer's block because the more I elaborate the situation the more I kinda get ideas of what to write next :)
