Want to hook your readers in?
CLIFFHANGERS! Okay so I personally like doing these twice or more in my books (you winkies have experienced this lmao). For me, if I want to reveal something very shocking and is an important part of the main plot, I usually save it at the end of the chapter and cut it right off.
Of course to be able to get to the end of the chapter, you have to write the rest of it, with the tip on the previous chapter (on elaborating) that will help you increase your word count in no time !! I often do this alot so I could reach my the ending of the chapter and put up a cliffhanger.
Ok so, getting on to the cliffhanger part :") You want your cliffhanger to be short but impactful so it leaves an impact on your readers.
One of my favorite cliffhangers that I've written was from 'Changed Person' which was where the part Minji asked Jihoon "Was I dumb for not noticing it in the beginning?"
(a short summary of the book for those who haven't read it so you can understand the cliffhanger above; jihoon is an introvert who really likes minji but fails to express his feelings whilst minji is head-over-heels for daniel whom she dated but soon realised he didn't really like her.)
Most readers thought her question was about not noticing jihoon's feelings for her when it's actually about not noticing that daniel never really had feelings for her and only dated her for attention.
You want to thoughroughly think about the words you're going to type down for your cliffhanger bc you want it to be very impactful.
BUT! Don't force yourself to have a cliffhanger if you haven't really thought it out, it's okay! As long as you write, it will eventually come to you in no time :").
