Chapter 11

"A little something, I like to call paintball explosives." Kiera swallowed a laugh as she knew the twins would be on the top of her once she got inside.

"Paint explosions?" The jaguar looked at her confused. "What in the world is a 'paint explosion'?" She used air quotations to add to her point. Maroon gave a simple shrug.

"The paint explosives are ah... little buggers that only I know to make and it's a good thing too. If the twins knew the house would be a different color every week." She turned to the duo. "You remember back in chemistry when a blue smoke screen when off during the lesson?" Both girls nodded. "Well, I might have set one off by accident. And to my defense, I had no idea one of them was in my bag." Katie stared in shock as she remembered.

After they had finished going over an assignment in Mr. Little's class there was just a wave of blue. No one knew what it was or how it had gone off. Although it was a great way to get out of class for at least 30 minutes. Not that Katie was complaining but she was always curious as to what it was.

"The explosive is no bigger than a paintball really. But it does give off a powerful punch so if I ever give one of these to you just be mindful alright?" Kiera shot them a shit-eating grin.

"What in your right mind, made you want to figure out how you could make paint explode?" Maroon got up in Kiera's face about the manner.

"Because I was bored? And it'll come in handy when facing multiple enemies." Kiera shrugged and spun toward the house, seeing to the destruction she had caused. "This should be fun."

Once inside, the kitchen was colored blue and pink with Kiera's father looking less than happy about the whole ordeal. The twins, however, were having the time of their lives seeing who could be messier. Jay clearly the winner, with his face a light lavender color along with his clothes. Emma, on the other hand, was hit with the pink mostly on her clothes and the tips of her hair.

"Why don't you two go wash up?" Father gazed softly but firmly to get his point across. Both looked down disappointed but left the kitchen nonetheless. "As for you, Kiera clean up the mess you made. As for you others, head home it's getting late and it's a school night." He began to stalk out of the room as Kiera asked a question.

"But Father what about the training? With the Vampires building up their forces we don't have much time!" There was a moment of silence as the question hung in the air. Each side contemplating how they should answer.

"This Phantom business, I would like to keep the casualties to a minimum. That's the end of the discussion." He just walked out leaving no room for discussion.

"But-." Fine, we'll do this my way, old man. Kiera huffed and turned to her friends who were clearly uncomfortable with the situation they had just witnessed. "I'm sorry you had to witness that, he gets a bit unbearable sometimes. I have a feeling we're going to need you two in the coming weeks. Regardless of what he says."

"So, what's the plan then? Hold secret meetings to train like in the Harry Potter books? That plan will hold for about two minutes, we're not human. Our sense of smell is much stronger than theirs." Maroon sighed dramatically to push her point.

"I don't know yet but I'll have to talk to him. He's being unreasonable right now." Kiera nodded her head back to indicate her father. "We don't have nearly enough Alphas and Betas to have any hope of taking down the Vampires if they are building up arms."

"What about the Omegas? Don't they get to take part in all of this?" Katie asked confused by why the sub gender wasn't mentioned.

"Omegas aren't built for battle, not like Alphas and Betas. I'm not trying to say that they are useless but they are typically our healers. And because they are the ones that carry and care for the pups it doesn't make much sense to put them in harm's way. They are essential to making the pack run smoothly."

"Ah. So, what's your dad then? He doesn't seem to be a very natural Alpha." Kiera grimaced. "Oh, is that a sore subject?"

"Sort of. But yeah, you're right when you say he's not a natural Alpha. He's actually a Beta but was forced to take over the pack when my mother died. He took on the traits of the Alpha because his Alpha pups were either too young or hadn't presented yet. My eldest sister is an Omega meaning she couldn't take over. Well, she could but it was very unlikely because there was a reason to believe that at least one of her other siblings would present Alpha. Which was Angel actually, but because of some mental issues so it came down to me and depending on how I presented I would possibly be the next Alpha leader of the pack. As it turned out I did present Alpha. As for everyone else in my direct bloodline, Jade presented as an Omega, which doesn't seem like it fits her so well but we'll see. But for her twin brother Kyle he was an Alpha even though he was born second."

"Oh, that's awesome! But wait, because technically Maroon has the wolf spirit wouldn't she have a sub gender as well?" Kiera nodded her head.

"Because of the wolf becoming a second animal that she can become. She can only present as either a Beta or an Omega since the wolf is much weaker than what her first animal is. Which is a fox and she can stay as one longer than what she can a wolf form. But if her first animal was a wolf like me and the pack she would no doubt be an Alpha."

This was so much to take in. Katie's head might explode if she has to learn anything more about how everything works but she had one more question. "What do you think mine will be? Omega or Beta?" Kiera looked at the ceiling to try and put the pieces together.

"I hope you're an Omega. So, then the Alpha will have a fuck toy." Maroon snickered by side her.

"I honestly don't know. You hold traits for both which is a good thing but it might cause trouble as well."

"Trouble?" The Jaguar tilted her head in confusion.

"It's rare to have a person have such a mix of both sub genders. Which has caused knotheads to want them more? But because you haven't had your wolf spirit yet one of them might mellow out a lot and the other will be more dominant. It'll also depend on the element that resides within the necklace as well. If it's water, which I know is your favorite, you might have a higher chance of being a Beta. But we'll have to wait and see." Kiera glanced at the clock and saw that it read 5: 34. "It's about time I stop babbling and you guys get home safely. I don't want you to get caught up in anything nasty."

"Alright fine I'll make sure your precious treasure gets home safely." Maroon wrapped an arm around Katie's shoulders and lead her to the front door.

"You might want to get your stuff before you leave." Maroon dropped her arm around Katie and then turned her attention to the living room and went to retrieve her and Katie's things. As Maroon left Kiera grabbed Katie's wrist and pulled her close pressing a soft kiss on her tender lips. "Take it easy on the way home alright KitKat?"

"KitKat?" Katie was baffled but rolled with it. It was a nickname. It was her nickname given to her by the person who meant the world to her. (At least I hope!!)

"You ready to get out of here?" Maroon asked as she slid on her coat sliding her arm around her shoulders once again. Katie nodded and waved goodbye to her girlfriend.

"Later KitKat! Maroon no groping." Maroon physically slouched and pouted like a little kid at her words. And just like that, they were gone. Their figures disappearing into the night.
