Saturday:
From Wednesday, onward, the days whizzed past me. And it was no wonder why. I had something to look forward to on Saturday, and nothing could possibly get my mood down that week. My pals heard through word of mouth (Lan's mouth to be exact) what had transpired between me and Steven during gym class. Let's just say Danielle was not pleased and berated me about a lack of "trust" in our friendship. I managed to calm her down and get her to see it was nothing of the sort.
I simply didn't want to make a huge deal over this little date I was gonna have. Danielle wouldn't hear it however, and I only managed to sooth her when I promised she could come over my house Saturday too. All my pals were all-a-flurry with excitement...more than me somehow, and I promised to fill them up with all the deats their little ears could take. :)
I was anxious to see Steven again on Friday because I couldn't get the boy off my mind since...well since I first laid eyes on him to be honest. Unfortunately, Steven wasn't in school. I can't say that I was too disappointed because the prospects of seeing him gave me the chils, and I felt that it was best this way. However, I was a little put off that Steven, since giving him my number, had not called...or at least texted? I thought that's what people did when they were dating...or hanging out...or whatever we're getting ourselves into.
Then again, he most likely did forget my number, and this troubled me greatly. If Steven forgot my number how would you know where to pick me up...I never told him my address did I? Or what if he needed to contact me, and let me know that he was gonna come earlier, or later?
These things surged through my mind as I took AP US test, and punched numbers into my calculator. I was relieved when Friday came along, but as soon as the last bell rang my molecules started to buzz. I was on great big ball of anticipation...I couldn't concentrate. I mean this is the thing I've been waiting for...the first date...the first kiss...the wedding ring, and a gaggle of kids. That's how these things work right? Fine, fine I'm a hopeless romantic! So sue me! :-p
When my eyes finally popped open Saturday, I was in a flurry. I had no time to spare. I made an appointments to do my hair, nails, and I had a billion other things to take care on top of that. My parents regarded me curiously as I flew about the house in a panic. I checked off my list one by one, driving to-and-fro various locations. In all the confusion I even forgot to eat...and that happens rarely let me tell you ;).
After ordering a pizza, I waited till five o'clock came around, and in came Lan and Danielle shortly after. We all crowded into my bedroom.Though the two aren't the best of friends, they promised to be civil in honor for the occasion.
"Soo...like when is the party?" Danielle mumbled in between bites of her slice.
"Umm...I'm not entirely sure....Steven never told me to be honest." I answered while catching the clothing Lan was chucking out of my wardrobe.
"WHAT?" Danielle's head popped up with a pepperoni dangling from her mouth.
"Ya...I mean I gave him my number...I don't have his."
"Has he contacted you at all?" Danielle said with raised eyebrows.
"Umm no...?"
"Kim, are you serious? You didn't think to ask?"
"I know. I know" I said, burying my head in a tank top. "I was just too stunned at the moment. What do I do?"
"Oh don't worry kiddies. Lan to the rescue. There are only soo many parties going on at once and I've got the scoop." Lan shouted over her shoulder.
"Well, your highness, do tell your lowly servants." Dan answered , rolling her eyes.
"Humm" Lan turned to face up, still holding one of my dedicates in her hand. "It cannot be Kerry Sander's party cause everyone knows that her party ends at like nine thirty...and Billy Mitchell never lets guests bring friends...Joey Saurd's is like ten hours away in Cid Creek...So in that case it HAS to be Laura Dean's party. It's the only other alcoholic event I know." Lan said very smugly.
"And what about the non-alcoholic ones?" Dan questioned.
"Ya right. Like Steven would go to those lame as nerd fests." Lan turned away.
"Excuse me...I have non alcoholic parties!" Dan said clenching her fists.
"I know." Lan shrugged carelessly.
I gave Danielle an apologetic grimace as she shot laser beams at Lan with her eyes.
"Now at least I know where it is...and you know when it starts Lan?"
"Cha ya...at like 7 or 8 ish."
"Perfect...I can enjoy myself for a few hours before curfew."
"Let's just hope Steven here actually contacts you well before then." Dan said as she decided to join in the search of the perfect outfit.
"I'm sure something just distracted him." I said. I didn't even convince myself however.
A couple of minutes later my cell phone sounded he Power Puff Girls theme song happily on my bed sheets. Lo and behold it was an unidentified number...which could only mean one thing. It had to be Steven! (Well it could have not been him...but...it was, so HA!) My gaiety took a turn for the worse when I read what it said:
"Heyy yoo,
kim? I can't come pick you up srry Meet @ Laura Dean crib laterz round 7 30
iight peace xxStevenxx"
I fell on my bed dramatically. The moment called for it.
"What's the matter? Was that Steven?" Dan pondered while finding shoes for my outfit.
"Ugh yess. He said he can't come pick me up." I muttered despondently.
"Whaa the fuck? Why the hell not?" Lan shouted.
"Dan! Um my parents are in the next room...could you keep it down?" I replied.
"Hey I'm sorry but seriously? What a douche! It's you guy's first date and he can't come...it's like twenty till seven."
"Don't worry kiddies." Lan butted in. "I can drive. Duh!"
"That's not the point Barbie!" Dan spit out venomously. "Look he's hot...but just dropping this on her without any warning...? Kinda prickish."
The two continued bickering. I was torn. I mean it was a major let down that Steven bailed on driving me there...but it's not like he didn't text at all, right? Plus I'm sure he had a valid reason. Car troubles or what not. I mean I really wanted to go see Steven...plus I never was invited to one of these shindigs before. Most of all, I didn't want to go to school Monday feeling like a big fact loser. I decided to stop those two from squabbling.
"Will you two just quit it!" I shouted exasperatingly.
"She started it!" Lan grumbled while crossing her arms.
"Really...what are you like two?" Dan responded. The two were about to go at it again but I put a stop to that.
"Enough, Look it's already seven. Sure it's disappointing that Steven can't pick me up, but ya know wat, we put a lot of hard work and effort. I woke up at nine today! NINE! And I did not try to look this amazing for nothing. I am gong to that party tonight!" I said raising my chin.
"Kimmy...are you sure?"
"Ya. I am. It'll be fine, I'm sure.' I nodded. Lan clapped gleefully in the background.
Ohh Kimmy ;)
