So, he's made a new friend. What's the big deal?" Mellie questioned me. We were sitting on the radiator in the orchestra room. School was over, and I had half an hour before I had to go to work.

"It's not a big deal, Mel. I'm just saying that he seems to be pretty interested in this 'Jen' character." I said rolling my eyes.

"Speaking to someone for a few minutes during class is not what I'd call 'interested.' Besides, what are you worrying for? Didn't he like profess his dying love for you or something?"

Mellie tends to exaggerate.

"No he didn't! All he said is that he liked me. That's nothing special. Steven said the same thing."

"Oh did now? From what I recall, Steven never outright say that he liked you. I think your brain wove a fantasy in those regards."

"Ouch!" Mellie also has a sharp tongue.

"Tough love, sista" Mellie shrugged her shoulder, as she munched on a sandwich.

"I do thank you for being honest, and I thank your perspicacity. I did jump the gun when it comes to Steven, and that's why I won't do the same with Logan."

"That's the thing! In this case, I don't think you are. Logan's been a perfect gentlemen from what you've told me. I mean he even asked you on a proper date! Most guys just skip all the chivalry, and head right to the home plate."

"Logan is a good catch, but for someone else. I don't like him like that."

"Yet you're being all jealous just cause he's speaking to Jen." It was Mellie's turn to roll her eyes.

"Hey, I am not jealous. You just don't understand how he's been acting lately. He never waits for me between classes anymore, and when I do get the chance to speak to him, it's like he's on edge. I don't bother texting him anymore."

"You guys text?" Mellie turns to me.

Apparently I left that detail out with Mel. Since after our first assignment, Logan thought it would be best to exchange numbers in case we needed to contact each other. One night he texted me "Hi.", and we'd been chatting it up since. Until recently anyway. :/

"Well we did. He barely replies, and when he does, it's like hours late. I don't know what's up with him. He seems to his jolly good self with Jen." I couldn't hide the scornful lit my voice took when I said her name.

"Look, just give him time to collect himself. You did bruise his ego after-all."

"How much time? I want it to go back to the way it was." I pouted.

I was tired of Logan's giving me the lukewarm shoulder those past two weeks. I wanted his old pleasant self back. Surprisingly, I missed his tangents about time travel, and the history of spoons.

"Be more aggressive. Invite him to hang out with us this Friday. Show him that you're committed to the friendship, and that you won't blow him off again-for any reason."

"I have been! Hello! Plus, I have dignity. I chased after Steven, and look where that got me."

"The difference between Logan, and Steven is that Logan's actually worth the effort."

We sat a little while longer in silence, me thinking about Mellie's wise words, and Mellie devouring her sandwich.

********************

The bell finally rung, and thank the good Lord for it. I was itching for photography to hurry up, and finish. It was same old, same old. Mr. Whycan'tIeverrememberhisname droned on about some silly things. I couldn't really pay attention because I'd been too busy analyzing the reason why Jen-the blond bitch Logan's suddenly grown attach to- squeezed Logan's arm. I know I have no good reason for calling her a bitch but I can't help myself. How dare she be so pretty, blond, and slender. Most of all, how dare she lay a finger on Logan. I feel like I'm being replaced since Logan's been acting distant. Lady luck must be on my side nonetheless, because Mr. Teacher assigned another partner project, so Logan's stuck with me. Hardy har har. >:) He won't be able to wiggle himself out of that one.

I've decided to go with Mellie's strategy, and invite Logan out for a night on the town this Friday. To get a hold of him is the tricky part so I've made sure to pack up my belongings before the bell rang. Now I can accost him in the stairwell.

At the bell, I sprung out of my seat, and dash off, lingering at the top awaiting Logan. All my fellow classmates leave to go their own way, but Logan trails behind the pack, and of course is laughing it up with Jen. It stings a little... I mean not long ago that was him, and I.

"Logan, hold up for a moment." I said, interrupting their conversion.

Logan looked back and forth between Jen, and me.

"I don't have much time." He said finally, bidding Jen farewell.

I glared at her as she walked away before turning back to Logan.

"Look I know you don't want anything to do with me but-" I began.

"That's not true!" Logan said cutting me off. His eyebrows shot up, and he does look a bit flustered

"Save it. I miss hanging out, and since we're still on faulty ground, as peace offering, I was wondering if you'd like to come with me to go bowling on Friday? Me and my friends planned to go and you can be my plus one."

"I-I don't know." Logan started, glancing every which, but not at me.

"Oh come on. If you're busy I understand, but if you're then come with! I suck at bowling and I want someone to be on my team."

"Well I suck too." A smiled appeared on his face. That was a good sign. I hadn't made him smile in a while.

"Then we can fail together! Please?" I pleaded, giving the best puppy dog expression I could manage.

I could see Logan thinking it through, but his resolve faltered.

"Okay. I'll go." Logan nodded his consent.

"Oh happy days! Great. I'll text you the deats later!"

Nodding again, Logan said bye before departing. I smiled triumphantly. I made some progress, but I wasn't satisfied yet. I would wait to see what Friday brought.
