So, good news, I am officially the top musician in Messina. All the locals voted and I came out on top. A personal victory at least.

But, to dampen the success, because I am to be 16 in the spring, my father, Antonio, recommends that I start preparing to join the war. Forcibly making me prepare to join up.

I'd rather stay. I have a twin sister - Beatrice - and I said that I need to care for her - especially if she refuses to marry anyone.

I wish there was no war, I could just play my music. Problem solved.

But no, off to war, off to fight, off to die.
