PARMUS
I walked out of the school and sighed as my eyes landed on Nathan's car. Several thoughts ran through my head as I tried to rationalize how I was going to approach this situation. I didn't even know if I wanted to have this conversation.
I slid into the car, closing the door behind me.
"How was school?" He asked as we pulled out of the school parking lot.
"It was okay." He eyed me every few minutes but kept his main focus on the road.
He pulled into the driveway of my house, parked the car then turned to face me. "Okay, what's up?"
The courage I once had disintegrated as I sunk into my seat.
He placed his hand over mine, silently encouraging me to speak to him. I stared down at my lap, the only sounds heard were the sounds of the rain hitting the car.
"Are you only hanging out with me because your parents promised you the alpha title?" I finally said, keeping my voice small.
After a long while of silence, I stared up to see him looking out his window, deep in thought.
I released my hand from his grip then grabbed my backpack. "I knew it."
Throwing my hood over my head, I opened the door and walked towards my front door as he called after me. I was a few feet from my door when I was turned around.
"Yes, my parents said they would give me the alpha position if I chose a mate. But I chose you because I like you Parmus. I've always liked you." He confessed.
I shook my head as his words hit me. "No, y-you can't."
He ignored my words and continued. "Even with a mate, my dad doesn't plan on making me alpha. We talked about this earlier."
His right hand brushed against my cheek.
I shook my head, "Nathan I..." My words were cut off as he brought his lips to mine. His left arm snaked around my back as he pulled me closer. Before he could deepen the kiss, a loud bolt of lightning hit a tree only a few feet away from us. We pulled apart in an instant. Eyes wide, not sure what to say from there.
Nathan ran his hand through his drenched hair as he sighed. "I'm going to go. I'll check in on you later." I nodded before he turned on his heel and got into his car. I released a shaky breath, I hadn't realized I'd been holding. I was overwhelmed and confused.
Shaking my head I retreated into the comfort of my home. I didn't even feel like bothering with dinner so I walked straight into my room, closing the door behind me. I threw my backpack on the ground then quickly changed into a dry pair of clothes. A few minutes I slid right into the warmth of my blankets. It didn't take long for my eyelids to shut on their own accord.

I woke up a few hours later to a dark room. The rain was still coming down hard. I didn't know much about the weather, but I was sure if we got any more rain it would start flooding. Sighing, I stood and grabbed my phone off the nightstand. I had two messages from Nathan.
Nathan:
I'm really sorry. I screwed up.Nathan:
Please still come with me to the meeting?I ran my hand through my hair, thinking of what I was going to say. I no longer wanted to go at this point. Especially with Nathan and I's relationship a little weird at the moment. I wasn't sure how I felt about him, and that terrified me because I knew I had a mate out there. I believed in good karma and going down this road with Nathan would not lead to it. But I told him I would go, and I didn't like going back on my word.
