The end or beginning?

My life couldn't really be considered normal. Me and my mother had begun a "project" quite a while ago, too bad she's gone now. We could have probably used her guidance. When she disappeared I needed someone to work on the project with me.

The project was a machine. Vague, but the details were lost in the accident. Back when my mother and I started working on it there were quite a few problems. I can't exactly recall to many of the details about all of them, but I can try.

I think the tyrannical bitch that had taken control knew my mother was a top engineer/scientist and had tried to force her to create something destructive, but my mother had insistingly refused.

Mother had went into hiding with me when red flags started popping up, but we were never really safe. Around then is when she had started on the machine. I remember her teaching me as she worked on it, showing me everything I'd need to know.

By the time she vanished we had about half the machine finished but like I said, I wouldn't be able to complete it on my own. I don't remember how, but I came into the company of a skeleton who knew some things my mother didn't on the project she started.

He came from the slums, like all skeletons. Ever since Ms. Bitch took over, skeletons had been opressed almost to the point of slavery. I don't know what the fuck she had against the skeleton population, but damn.

I think the machine would have helped their situation if it worked properly.

Anyways, me and him were a great team while it lasted. Eventually Her Tyrrany found something that pointed to us working on something strange. I don't know what the fuck she found, But it screwed everything up.

We had to constantly change the location we were working in. Constantly stressing over several things at once was wearing us down. Not only did we still have to work on the machine, but now we had to worry about new hideouts and the possibility of her goons finding us.

We had finished the machine, but had no time to test it before the goons were busting into our recent hideaway. I told the skeleton to take the machine and get out while I distracted them. It wasn't long before I was on the ground knocked out. At least I was a good enough at keeping them away from the machine while he teleported out with it.

From what I've learned, he had brought it with him to his relatives in one of the lower abandoned docking bays. That place was way too close to the waters. He apparently managed to get his family in on tweaking the machine so it would work just right. Nothing too complicated, just a few onceovers to see if there were any loose wires or if we missed anything.

I don't know how the goons found that place so quickly after busting our hideout. It's pretty unclear of what exactly happened.

The running theory is that the goons came in with weapons firing and my skelefriend fell into the water, thank fuck he didn't sink into the nothingness underneath it. He had climbed back up to find absolute chaos. We think he activated the machine, but there was an explosion.

The machine didn't explode, it was a stupid fucking goon. We think the fucker shot something flammable. The machine didn't have time to go through the entire process before falling through the water and into the nothingness underneath, effectively cutting the it off midway through.

It really fucked everything up. We can't remember what it was meant to do. We can't remember what it looked like, we can't even remember our names.

What have we done?
