Days had gone by but to me it had felt like months. So far I had burned through my time by watching the grandfather clock in the house. The soothing and rythumic tick-tock echoed through the house and made my mind slow down. "Come on you can't mope here forever." Katherine said above me. Her arms were crossed like she was angry but she had a sad look onher face.
"Actually I can, you know the whole immortal thing." I mumbled and rolled over on my side, my eyes never leaving the clock.
"Adriana." She laid down beside me and gently stroked her hand through my hair. "I understand that you're upset but everything's going to be okay, it's all part of the plan."
Suddenly something inside of me just snapped and all of the pain and hurt that I had been bottling up exploded out. "The plan!" I laughed and stood up. "Of course the plan how could I forget your perfect plan!" Katherine looked up at me in shock. "You know every has always been about you from the very beginning. You wanted Stephen back so we came back here. You decided to turn us into vampires back then. You, you, you!"
"Adriana you need to calm down." She put her hands up and took two slow steps towards me, like I was a wild animal she was trying to tame.
"Calm down! Calm down!" I laughed again and kicked a chair across the room. "Why should I calm down! You ruined my life, you took everything from me and I just went along with it!"
"Adriana!"
I whipped around. "You killed our family because of what you did!"
A look of pure hurt washed over her face but I looked away, I would give in if I looked and I couldn't give in, not this time. "Where are you going?" She whispered as I yanked open the door, letting the cool night air in.
"I'm going somewhere I'm wanted, somewhere that I wouldn't be yanked around like a rag doll or used for some stupid plan!" I snapped and slapped the door as hard as I could without splintering it into pieces.
For a while I just ran, dashing blindly through the woods. Dodging trees and jumping over animals, so fast that they didn't even have time to react. How long had it been that I had just run, had left everything behind? Enjoyed the smells, the feel of the cool night air on my bare skin, and the pale light of the moon?
Within minutes I reached the Salvatore house and jumped in through Damen's window. The room was dark and there wasn't a single sound, silence echoed through the house, too quiet. "Damen?" I whispered and tip-toed down the staircase, looking down every hallway before walking down it. "Damn it Damen." I growled when I saw him laying on one the couched, his body elegantly sprawled across it. A empty glass bottle of what had been bourbon laid on the floor next to his hand which hung off the side of the couch.
"Damen." I nodged his arm softly. "Come on wake up."
"Adriana?" I whipped around to see Stephen standing in the archway, suprise all over his face and then it hardened into a scowl. "Or Katherine?"
I shook my head. "Right the first time, no need to sound the alarm. "
He smiled slight and nodded his head at Damen. "He's been like that since you left. Well at first he looked for you non stop, almost killed someone because he didn't drink any blood for a few days while he did. Finally he gave up saying 'if you didn't want to be found then you could die with Katherine' and ended up drinking himself to death like this every night."
A wave of sadness and guilt watched over me as I ran a hand across his jawline. "And here I thought I had it bad because I just watched a clock tick by all day."
"You're both idiots." Stephen mumbled as he sat down. "Maybe that's why you're so perfect for each other."
I laughed lightly. "Maybe, just maybe."
