My mother and I chatted aimlessly as we walked towards my old house. I glanced up at my mother worriedly before tugging on the end of my blonde ponytail. Our conversation fell into the water as we neared the cabin looking house. It still looked the same, four years hadn’t changed it much.

It was two stories tall and it was made out of wood. I remember my mom telling me that her and my father had built it when they first got engaged so they could move out of my grandparents’ house and live like adults.

I always liked our house, even the lack of a garden and the over sized garage that was beside it, which took away from the ‘nature’ vibe of the house.

“Hey, why don’t we go for a run? Or maybe we can go into town and go watch a movie at the theater or something. I like that idea actually. Mom, can I go see a movie?” I asked my mother, turning my head upwards to give her my best puppy dog look.

Tyra chuckled and shook her head, an amused look on her face. My cutsie looks never worked on my mother, which sucked, but I was hoping after four years at least something would be different.

“You can’t avoid your father forever.” Tyra sang, grinning mischievously as she latched onto my wrist and tugged me towards the place I used to call home.

We neared the white front door and I could feel my heart starting to beat erratically. Urg, I don’t want to sit through a ‘daddy lecture’. Tyra pushed the door wide open, announcing our presence shamelessly. “Hunny, I’m home!” Tyra joked, yelling louder than necessary.

“Mom, do you have to make a big show of it. Really?” I asked in a jaded tone.

I heard something bang and then much cursing coming from upstairs. My mother was smirking like a crazy person and I bit my lip nervously. What was going on up there?

Footsteps echoed from upstairs and I listened while my father descended the stairs from the second floor, getting closer and closer to my mother and I. “I was napping Red, did you really have to yell so loudly mentally too?” My dad groaned as he came into view, a scowl on his face.

His black hair was sticking up in all directions and it didn’t help that he was tiredly scratching his head while yawning. His bright green eyes were half closed and he was topless, which was kind of nasty in my books. It’s really weird seeing your dad have an eight pack and even more disturbing when you can just see your mother ogling them.

Ignoring my dad’s complaining, my mother pushed me forward so I stumbled on my own two feet. “I brought you your next victim!” Tyra said cheerily, as if she wasn’t sending me on my impending doom.

“What...?” Jesse blinked a few times before his eyes landed on me. His eyes, which were full of confusion, cleared very quickly and they went from extremely joyful to almost hellish. “I have a bone to pick with you missy.” My dad said, pointing a finger at me and narrowing his eyes.

I started to turn around, “Hey mom, what about that movie...” but my plea was lost when I noticed my mother wasn’t even there anymore. “What the hell?”

“Oh, she left right after she pushed you.” Jesse said lazily. I opened my mouth to say something else, maybe beg for my life or something, but with his freakishly fast reflexes, my dad grabbed onto my wrist and dragged me towards the living room area so we could begin our little ‘chat’.
