Chapter 7

I woke up to bright sunlight washing my face. I opened my eyes slowly, squinting at the bright sunlight to realise it wasn't streaming through leaves, as I was used to, but through a large window that was in the kitchen.

I rolled over to my other side, still disoriented, only to run into the back of a couch.

Well, I thought to myself, that shouldn't be there.

I sat up and looked down as a thin, brown blanket fell off my shoulders to lie in my lap. The couch beside me, which I had bumped into, was a faded black leather and the floor I was laying on was covered in soft grey carpet.

As I looked around me, at the kitchen and the hallways that led to other rooms, the memories of the day before slowly began to come back.

I remembered getting caught by Colton and his patrol team, meeting my parents again, meeting Tyler Stone and his goons again and, of course, being told that I, and my other pack mates, would have to go to school.

Groaning, I fell back down onto the floor and pulled the blanket over my head, wishing for the events of yesterday to be a dream.

"Tessa? Are you awake?" I peeked around the blanket to look up at Thistle, who stood above me, watching from behind the couch with a frown on her face. "I told you not to sleep on the floor." She scolded, an annoyed frown on her face.

I groaned in response, pulling the blanket back over my head and turning away from the couch.

Why the hell am I on the floor again?

Oh, right. I suck at rock-paper-scissors.

"It's not my fault I'm terrible at children games." I mumbled in response sighing as I rolled back over to lie on my back and look up at Thistle, who was now smiling.

"You're right, you are pretty terrible. It's why we always take advantage of you." Thistle giggled, smiling at me from above. Frowning I sat up and rubbed my eyes before stretching my arms and standing up, leaving the blanket abandoned on the floor.

"You know, I'm actually kind of excited." Thistle said after a moment of silence. With my arms still stretching, pointing towards the ceiling, I turned my face to look at Thistle over my shoulder.

"About what?"

Thistle spun her body around so she was now sitting on the couch so I could only see the top of her head covered in dark brown hair. "School! I've never been to school before. I think it could be fun."

I turned around completely then, letting my arms drop to look at Thistle, not that she was facing me. I sighed and walked towards the youngest member of our pack to circle my arms around her shoulders and place my chin on the top of her head.

It was warm.

"If we're all there, it should be okay." I answered her honestly.

"No one else seemed very excited." Thistle answered sadly as she grabbed onto my arms and held them tightly. "Theo was so angry..."

I tightened my hold a little bit and kissed the top of her head. "Theo is always angry about something." I answered calmly. "I wouldn't let his negative attitude get you down."

"Are you saying bad things about me behind my back again?" I turned around leaving my left hand on Thistle's shoulder so see Theo walking towards us with a tired smirk on his face.

He was wearing a pair of baggy black sweatpants, probably something he found in a closet in one of the rooms, and his red-blonde hair was disheveled.
