Harry’s Point of View

I smile at her as she says the three words that make my night every time she says them.

The light at the intersection we’re at turns green, and Alina gives me that signature soft smile of hers, “I love you.”

She is the girl of my dreams. I can’t imagine being with anyone else right now. We’ve been through so much together. These little moments we share, are so perfect. They open my eyes; to really show me how lucky I am to have someone like her.

I slowly press my foot on the gas pedal and keep my eyes on her, “I love-“

A light forms behind her and I try to focus on it to see what it is. Huh? Two bright headlights grow larger and larger. She gives me a confused look and I realize what’s happening.

I scream for her, “ALINA!”

She turns around and the white pick-up truck hits us full force on her side. She screams and I hold onto her arm. The car starts rolling like a toy and the windshield glass shatters on us. I wince feeling it cut my skin, and my head hits the ceiling every time the car rolls. Finally, after what seems like forever, the car stops upside down.

Everything is happening so quickly I can't even grasp what's actually going on.

My head is spinning as I hear a cracking noise. I look out towards the front of the car to see a flame. I knew that engines caught on fire when rough car accidents happened, but I wasn’t expecting it and don’t know what to do about it. God I need to get out of here with Alina quick before something bad happens.

Wait.

Alina.

I try to focus my vision on her but everything is blurry. I start to inhale smoke and dryly cough it out.

“Alina?”

No answer.

The car becomes so cloudy I can’t see anything. I unbuckle my seatbelt and try to feel my way to her. I run my hands along as I crawl on the ceiling of the car. Suddenly, I touch something soft. It’s her cheek.

“Alina!”

No answer.

I try to move her but I’m too weak. “Ugh. Come on babe you gotta get up!”

The smoke is overwhelming now and I can barely breath. I see the flames in the front grow and start to panic. We need to get out of here now. I move around her and feel her warm body. Why wasn’t she answering me? Even though I can't clearly see her yet, it hits me. Is there a possibility that she's-

No no no no no no no no no. This isn't happening. A wave of fear washes over me and I become determined to get out of the car with her.

I find the door handle on her side and try to open it. It doesn’t budge. I adjust myself and begin kicking it. The first couple times nothing happens, but on the third the door flings back on its hinge and falls to the ground. I slide out onto the grass and groan in pain.

Grass? Were'nt we on a street? I look around. We had rolled down the ditch on the side of the road. Whatever, I have to get Alina, nothing else matters now. I climb back into the car and grab her around her waist. I use all my strength to pull her out.

“Agh,” I moan as I take her out. As soon as she’s on the ground, I drag her as far away from the car as I can with my strength level, which is about two feet away. My vision clears and I gasp.

I bend over her, “Alina! Alina! Can you hear me?”

No answer.

I start to shake her shoulders, “Alina!”
