Coworkers

She's got eyes as brown as the Earth below
A temper as hot as a Blacksmith's eternal flame
A voice as cool as the running river in our town
And hair as wispy and loose as the wind

The brown in her eyes is my drive to move forward
The heat of her wrath is what helps me see my mistakes
The texture of her voice is what helps me understand
The dyes in her hair are what gives me a new definition of rainbow

Meeting her was like riding in the passenger seat of a speeding car
Our souls were entwined together before I understood what has happened
We drove that distance despite the warnings of our colleagues
We burnt out our gas within the first few weeks

I still see her eyes when I look at our old pictures on my desk
I still feel her temper when I see her at work
I still hear the cold in her tone when she leads a meeting
I still want to run my hands through her hair

Through all of this I have learned the truth
Through all of this I have faced my fear
I've committed to another girl who didn't commit to me
I've come out broken beyond repair

It's when I see her eyes for last time packing up her desk
It's when I feel the Flames of her glare when she passes me
It's when I hear her normal cool voice laced with teary goodbyes
It's when her hair falls slightly in her face to hide her despair

That I realize that she doesn't want to leave but must
She knows that we can't work together anymore
I feel the last beat of my heart as she walks out our door
I sit in silence as I decide I don't care for her anymore
