Mackenzie's POV:

"Kenzie, kenzie!" I sit up with my eyes widened. I groan lightly placing my hand over my forehead. I look to the right to see Maddie's face. "What?!" I say obviously mad that she awoken me. Maddie clasps her hands together before speaking. "Ok so I have a surprise for you. Get in the car."
Maddie starts exiting my room while I don't budge. "Kenzie come on, you'll understand when we arrive." I look to my right once again to my clock. 4:23 am. "Maddie the heck! Why are you so energized this early in the morning. Also-" Maddie held her hand up shushing me. "When have I ever disappointed you?"
I open my mouth but Maddie stops me one again. "Um don't answer that. But Kenzie seriously you won't regret this." I groan slowly getting out of bed. While walking down the steps I try my best to comb my hair with my fingers. Maddie won't let me get dressed so I'm going out in a onesie and bed head.
Once in the car Maddie starts driving to what it seems like the beach. My breathing hitched a little. I haven't been to this beach since the accident. I shake the thought out of my mind. Getting closer and closer to the beach I spot Lauren. Looks like she's carrying wood. I impatiently wait for Maddie to park.
Before exiting the car I face Maddie. "What a great surprise. Going to the beach at four am!" I say sarcastically rolling my eyes. Maddie ignored my comment getting out of the car. I slowly walk towards Lauren thinking of scenarios that could make this night fun. "Kenzieeee." Lauren squeals lightly hugging me.
"Yeah hi. Um so why are you here at four am? Are you here alone?" As you can see I'm already over it all. "Nice bedhead." I recognize the voice and turn around facing Johnny. I shriek in fear quickly starting to comb my hair the best I can with my little fingers.
Johnny laughs and lays his hand on my arm making me immediately stop. "It's fine, look at how I'm dressed." I look him up and down and smack him. "You look better than me!" Johnny laughed once more. "Can someone please answer? Why the heck did I have to wake up to come to the beach."
Johnny reaches towards my hand but hesitates. He slightly frowns but replaced it quickly with a smile. He walks over to wood stacked and then pats the sand floor indicating me to sit. I don't budge for a minute trying to figure out what made him frown. I shrug and start walking towards the spot.
"We're basically having a bonfire!" I turn around to see Hayden and roll my eyes. "Great more people to see me dressed this way." I say groaning "Oh please my eyes will basically be on Lauren this whole night."
"Ohh get it laur!" I clap and wink while you basically hear everyone ooing. I finally take a seat and Johnny hands me some marshmallows on a stick. "Do I need to teach you how to do this." I start to open my mouth but Johnny scoots me closer to him and lightly grabs my arm.
I am so thankful it's dark because everyone would have seen how much I'm blushing right now. "I'm not five I got this Johnny." I snap at him scooting away a bit. "And that's the Kenzie I know." Johnny laughs as I still roast the marshmallows.
"Hey Kenzie?" I glance over at Johnny. "This is the last day we get to hang out before you go back home." I look at him confused. "Yeah no dip Sherlock?" I laugh.
"Ok just listen." Johnny takes a deep breath as my heart starts pounding, why am I so nervous all of a sudden. "I wanted to apologize again. I wish I could go back to the day we first met and just start off better. I hate how I wasted all of these years just hating on you. You never deserved it" I had to stop him.
"I don't feel comfortable talking about this at this beach. I'm sorry." Johnny sighs. "It's just, I'll miss you Kenzie, thank you for these two amazing days." I look up at Johnny giving him a small smile. He smiles back and hesitatingly reaches in for a hug I don't hesitate and immediately hug him back.
We go back to roasting the marshmallows as we sit there side by side in silence, but a good silence. I start to look all around me. Hayden and Lauren cuddling under a blanket, Maddie on her phone probably talking to jack, and Johnny and I, tolerating each other. This is where my happy place is at going to be at.

(A/N - so second to last chapter :( sorry my fanfic just started to get sucky towards the end. That's why I took awhile to update I wanted to make it as good as possible but in the end it still sucks🤷♀️😂)
