In the dark, they gathered. Shifting gently in the darkness were sillhoutes adorned in majestic gold armor. Their footsteps were heavy as they crossed the grand hallway of the New Serapon Musuem of History. This was the meeting ground for the Nightwatch, an organization whose sole purpose and meaning in life is to guarantee the survival of mankind through the protection of the Chosen Ones.
A tall figure emerged from the darkness, a knight in full armor bearing the flag of the Nightwatch. His eyes scanned through the area around him and he nodded.
"Let us begin brothers."
Soon figures emerged from the dark, all of them adorned in armor as well. They took off their helmets, revealing the faces of men who are obviously too old for such formalities. "It is time." said the man bearing the flag with a deep voice. "Has the council spoken, captain?" asked a man with a scar on his face. The flag bearer took a deep breath and said "I am afraid so." He kneeled down and the others followed him.
"Creator, forgive our sins. We now know of our duty in this world and we shall carry it with no hesitation and regret."
Suddenly a faint voice echoed through the hallway, it came from down the hall. "It has started!"
The bearer stood up and the rest followed. They looked outside and saw a fight happening between the local New Serapon guards and the rebels.
"It is an uprising." said one of the knights.
"We are to intervene immediately and protect New Serapon from these fools, we must not let them overrun the city."
They unsheathed their swords, blades crafted from the late forgeries of a once great metropolis called Ruzan. Inscribed on their swords was the dogma of the Nightwatch.
"To watch the fog, to slay the fog."
Moments later steel would meet flesh in a collossal battle that would make New Serapon a battlefield.
Gabriel closed the door behind him, ignoring his father's complaints. Hours earlier they had an argument centered around Gabriel's girlfriend, Mersadie Olivers. Gabriel knew his grades would go down after all the classes he skipped lately just to see Mersadie during her free time away from his dad's company. But for Gabriel, it was all worth it. He had been wanting some time to just be with Mersadie, it's been weeks since they've last met.
He looked at the sky. Foggy, as usual. But there was a strong and cold breeze that brushed through him. He put on his jacket and started walking slowly towards the gate of his house. He heard his dad's voice from afar.
"Gabriel, be careful."
Gabriel smiled and glanced back at his dad.
"Sure dad."
His dad closed the door and Gabriel started to walk again. He reached their house's gate and picked up his bike. He went outside and started strolling down the street.
Mersadie's place was pretty far, so he calculated he'd be there in around thirty minutes if the local guards don't delay him too much with inspections.
"A little exposure to some fresh air wouldn't hurt."
Gabriel continued to bike.
He finally reached the first checkpoint. Gabriel smiled as he saw a familiar face.
"What's happening cap? "
Captain Karsky turned around and greeted Gabriel with a wave.
"Nothing much Gabriel, what are you doing up so late in the night?" asked the captain.
"I gotta get to Mersadie's, she wanted to talk to me about something. I guess it's urgent since she wanted me to go at night." replied Gabriel
Karsky frowned. "Listen Gabriel, I know Mersadie means a lot to you but boy it's in the middle of the night and you're biking all alone. Who knows, the rebels might just appear out of nowhere and kidnap both of us!"
Gabriel approached the captain. "Don't worry cap, I always bring my good luck charm."
Gabriel flashed the necklace his mother had given him years ago before her death, it was a circular plate of gold with a weird symbol in the middle. An eye, an irregular one, staring not at Gabriel, but towards the sky.
"That thing won't ensure your safety Gabriel. Just go back home, your dad must be pretty worried about you."
"Whatever you say cap"
Gabriel dashed with his bike and passed Karsky's checkpoint in a blink of an eye.
"Don't worry cap! I'll be sure not to cause any disturbances this time!" shouted Gabriel.
Karsky grinned. "Oh when was the last time I heard that before.."
