DANIEL'S P.O.V

"Man, last night was amazing. It was good seeing Lexi having fun. Her friends have said she's been acting up ever since we broke up. Or at least around that time. She looked fine to me. Girls are super sensitive. I don't get it. Anyways, Alec, you threw one hell of a party."

"Glad you liked it, bro. Glad you liked it. There's more where that came from. my parents are going out of town in a few weeks. But you gotta help clean up. No early dismissal for you. And, forget Lexi. Annabelle was SO all over you. You're into her, she's most likely into you. Go for it."

I sigh. "Not until I'm sure of it."

"Oh, c'mon, Danny. Don't be a wimp, now."

I glance at my watch "Oh shoot man, I gotta go. I'm gonna be late."

He laughs "Hah, late to what? I thought you said you had no life? Ahah."

"Sorry, but party ends, old life begins again. Lemme know when you're setting up that double date, would ya?" I snicker.

"Wait wha-"

I cut him off and hang up, laughing to myself as I fall back on my bed. Then I remember- I AM gonna be late. I jolt up and scramble out the door, knocking a picture over. With no time to pick it up, I keep running.

I sit down in the deep cream/beige chair and take a deep breath. I find my fingers tapping a rhythm. I don't know why I'm nervous but I am. A silly meeting. There's nothing to be nervous about. It's just a meeting. In the middle of summer. That's normal. Right?

The door handle moves and the door does as well. Mr. Lockavore, the football coach walks in. He adjusts his tie as he sits down.

"Daniel! I'm glad you could make it!" he says.

"Heh yep." I reply with an obvious nervous smile.

"So, Daniel, I'm sure you're wondering why I've called you down here in the middle if the summer. So listen close. Okay?" he says smoothly

"Okay" I reply still keeping my rhythm with my fingers.

He sighs, "okay, last year you were in a lot I trouble for your mischief you constantly cause, and I'm prepared to let it all go."

Relief shines in my face. "Really???" I ask excitedly.

"IF," he states as the hope drains out, "you promise not to cause anymore in our up coming future. If you can manage that, then I will not put anything on your record. You're a good kid, Daniel. I see a bright future for you if you monitor who you hang out with. Kids like Lexi Martinec, Brian Diner, they have fun without mischief." He takes a deep breath, "understood?"

I sigh, then shake my head as a way of saying "yes".

"Alrighty. Well then Daniel, I will see you in a month at orientation."

I nod my head again. He fixes his tie again as he stands up and opens the door for me. I walk out and walk home.

My home is close to the school, so I walk. It's easier and faster than starting up a car, fixing the seat, fixing the mirrors, and blah blah blah.
